: Head of Material Management

Position Title: Head of Material Management (HOD)

Reports To: Director of Operations/General Manager

Location: Hyderabad - Telangana

Job Summary:

The Head of Material Management (HOD) is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of material procurement, inventory management, supply chain logistics, and vendor development within an engineering manufacturing company. This role ensures the efficient and cost-effective flow of materials, from procurement to delivery, to meet production and business objectives, while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Planning:
• Develop and implement material management strategies aligned with company goals.
• Forecast material requirements based on production schedules and sales projections.
• Collaborate with senior management to align material management with overall business strategy.
• Procurement Management:
• Oversee the procurement of raw materials, components, and supplies.
• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and negotiate contracts to ensure the best terms.
• Monitor supplier performance and address any issues related to quality, delivery, or cost.
• Vendor Development:
• Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers to ensure a robust and reliable supply chain.
• Conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with company standards.
• Collaborate with vendors to improve quality, cost, and delivery performance.
• Negotiation Skills:
• Lead negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms.
• Develop negotiation strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes for the company.
• Maintain strong, positive relationships with suppliers while ensuring company interests are prioritized.
• Inventory Management:
• Develop and implement inventory control procedures to maintain optimal inventory levels.
• Monitor inventory levels and conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy.
• Implement strategies to reduce excess inventory and minimize obsolescence.
• Supply Chain Optimization:
• Coordinate with production, engineering, and logistics teams to ensure a seamless flow of materials.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance supply chain efficiency.
• Manage logistics and transportation to ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Team Leadership:
• Lead and mentor the material management team, providing guidance and support.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations of team members.
• Budget Management:
• Develop and manage the material management budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
• Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures where possible.
• Prepare financial reports and analyses related to material management.
• Quality Management System (QMS):
• Implement and maintain QMS techniques to ensure materials meet quality standards.
• Develop and enforce quality control processes and procedures.
• Work with suppliers and internal teams to resolve quality issues and ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Technology and Systems:
• Utilize material management software and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements in material management.
• Implement new technologies and best practices to improve operations.
• Compliance and Risk Management:
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to material management, including supply chain disruptions and compliance issues.
• Develop contingency plans to address potential material shortages or supply chain disruptions.

Qualifications:

• Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in material management, supply chain management, or procurement, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Experience in an engineering manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Skills:
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
• Proficiency in material management software and ERP systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Certifications:
• Relevant certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), or related certifications in Quality Management Systems are preferred.
• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
• Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) is preferred.

Working Conditions:

• Environment:
• Work is performed in an office setting with frequent interaction with production and warehouse environments.
• Occasional travel to supplier locations and other company facilities may be required.
• Physical Demands:
• Requires the ability to sit for extended periods and use standard office equipment.
• Occasional lifting and moving of materials or equipment may be required.
