Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) in a maternity hospital is responsible for delivering high-quality, compassionate nursing care to mothers, newborns, and families. This includes supporting women during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, as well as providing care to newborns. The RN works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including obstetricians, pediatricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the best outcomes for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Antenatal Care:
• Conduct prenatal assessments and monitor maternal and fetal well-being.
• Educate expectant mothers on prenatal health, nutrition, and self-care.
• Assist with prenatal testing and interpret results.
• Labor and Delivery:
• Provide support and care during labor and delivery, including pain management.
• Monitor maternal vital signs, fetal heart rates, and contractions.
• Assist obstetricians or midwives during childbirth.
• Perform emergency interventions as necessary, such as neonatal resuscitation.
• Postpartum Care:
• Monitor the health and recovery of mothers post-delivery.
• Provide breastfeeding support and education.
• Educate parents on newborn care, including bathing, feeding, and safety.
• Assess and manage any postpartum complications.
• Newborn Care:
• Conduct initial assessments and monitor newborns' health and development.
• Administer vaccinations and medications as prescribed.
• Provide guidance on newborn care, including feeding and sleeping.
• Patient Education and Support:
• Offer emotional support and counseling to mothers and families.
• Educate parents on family planning and postpartum care.
• Provide information on resources and support groups available to new parents.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with the healthcare team to plan and implement individualized care plans.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
• Document all patient care activities and maintain accurate medical records.
• Compliance and Safety:
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
• Participate in continuous professional development and training.

Qualifications:

• Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
• Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be required.
• Experience: Previous experience in obstetrics, labor and delivery, or neonatal care preferred.
• Skills: Strong clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work in a high-stress environment, and a compassionate demeanor.

Working Conditions:

• May require shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to handle physically demanding tasks, including assisting with labor and delivery.
