A radiology technician, also known as a radiologic technologist, has many responsibilities, including:
• Patient preparation Taking medical histories, shielding areas that don't need to be imaged, and educating patients about the procedure
• Patient positioning Ensuring the patient and equipment are positioned correctly to capture the correct area
• Imaging equipment operation Operating computerized equipment to take images, and calibrating the equipment to produce clear images
• Image evaluation Reviewing images to ensure they're clear enough for a diagnosis, and taking additional images if needed
• Patient safety Monitoring patients and ensuring their safety during procedures
• Equipment maintenance Maintaining and reporting any failures in the equipment, and ensuring it's properly sterilized and stored
• Patient records Keeping detailed patient records, and logging and organizing image results
• Communication Communicating with patients, and working with physicians to evaluate images and determine if additional images are needed
• Administrative tasks Completing paperwork, restocking supplies, and meeting with other health care professionals
