Job Description


Los Alamos National Laboratory, a premier nuclear weapons research and development laboratory, is seeking individuals with construction and facility inspection experience. The Inspector will work within a team of individuals to support the Laboratory mission to deliver world-class facilities and infrastructure. Individuals with experience and certifications in Mechanical, Welding, Fire Protection, Civil, and Structural inspections are needed. This function will perform inspections to verify construction and maintenance comply with code and design requirements. This individual will work within the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Engineering Services - Facility Engineering (ES-FE) group and will report to the LANL site Chief Inspector. Key responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to: . Performing inspections to verify compliance with building codes and standards, including the International Building Code (IBC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Uniform Mechanical and Plumbing Codes (UMC and UPC) and other consensus codes and standards. . Obtaining and maintaining commercial inspection certifications associated with specific disciplines (e.g. International Code Council (ICC), American Concrete Institute (ACI) or other relevant commercial certifications). . Interpreting inspection related codes and standards . Performing welding inspections in accordance with ASME codes and standards . Obtaining or maintaining American Welding Society (AWS) certifications for welding inspections . Reading, understanding and interpreting construction drawings and specifications . Writing and revising inspection plans and procedures . Reviewing engineering and procurement documents to assure the inclusion of applicable inspection, testing and quality requirements. . Working with project designers, project stakeholders, clients and other Quality Control Inspection organization personnel to ensure that specification, inspection and test requirements are met. . Documenting inspection results to demonstrate that technical and quality requirements of installations are met . Oversight of subcontracted inspection and test agency personnel to ensure compliance with LANL inspection and testing requirements. Basic Job Requirements . Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors . Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job . Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines . Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner Preferred Qualifications Training/Certifications: International Code Council, ACI, NICET, AWS, NFPA, etc. certifications as applicable to the specific position . Demonstrated experience with the application of codes and standards applicable to nuclear facilities or a similar highly regulated field.
