The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. Project Brief:
The overarching aim of this project is to develop a bereavement care package to deliver high-quality bereavement care to parents of stillborn babies in the Indian healthcare system. The proposed research will be undertaken as a collaboration between five institutions. The specific objectives are:
• Undertake a scoping review of literature to summarize bereavement practices within healthcare settings globally.
• Document the type of bereavement support provided by healthcare providers at the time of stillbirth and the unmet needs of bereaved parents and families of stillborn babies.
• Document the existing landscape of stillbirth bereavement care practices among healthcare providers and allied staff, including current practices, barriers, and facilitators to anticipated improvements.
• Develop a bereavement care package that can be integrated within current maternal health services to support bereaved parents and families across all levels of care.
Deliverables:• Design and manage qualitative research studies, including focus group discussions and in-depth interviews.
• Develop research instruments and standard operating procedures, ensuring ethical standards are met.
• Train field staff in collecting high quality and timely qualitative data.
• Ensure timely transcription and translation of the data.
• Liaise with in-house researchers and collaborate with metacentric teams to integrate the research work.
• Analyze collected qualitative data using NVivo.
• Contribute to research reports, manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, and grant proposal development.
• Travel as required.
• Any other task assigned by the PI.
Qualification:
Essential:
• PhD in Public Health, Sociology, Anthropology, or other allied fields with a strong focus on qualitative research.
Experience: Essential:
• At least 5 years of experience in analyzing qualitative health research in NVivo and/or ATLAS.ti software.
• Proven experience in designing and conducting qualitative research studies in a public health context.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Fluency in written and oral English.
• Fluency in use of MS-Office.
Desirable:
• Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
