JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title : Psychologist (M.SC / M.Phil Psychology)

Division : Clinical

Reporting to : Psychologist In-charge

Location : Madurai

Purpose of the position:

Responsible for providing outpatient psychological therapy to patient.

SUMMARY:

1. Provides Individual/family counseling related to crisis intervention, chemical dependency, rating disorders, impact of disability/disease in patient and family-situational disturbance / stress / dysfunction.

2. Provides psychological services for a variety of multi (specialty diagnostic treatment teams including: acting as liaison with appropriate referral sources and community agencies.

3. Acts as instructor for educational sessions on related topics.

4. Develops programs pertinent to psychological needs of patients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Interviews patient to obtain psychosocial history and conduct a psychosocial evaluation.

2. Evaluates data and establishes treatment plan that provides measurable benefits to patient in a quality-focused, user-friendly and cost-effective fashion.

3. If indicated by evaluation and treatment plan, engages in appropriate therapy within guidelines established in the department and/or by various managed care organizations with whom the department contracts for service.

4. Involves patient in identifying and understanding presenting symptoms and current difficulties using a variety of modalities, including individual and group therapy.

5. Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment plan accordingly.

6. Maintains documentation on all case records in accordance with stated guidelines.

7. Attends and participates in all departmental staff meetings, departmental /

administration meetings and maintains department policies, procedures and quality assurance standards.

8. Participates in multi-disciplinary meetings.

9. Educates and communicates with other clinic departments, and consumer groups as requested.

10. Maintains patient confidentiality.

11. Performs related work as required, including taking "call" as per departmental

policies and procedures.

12. Conducts psychological testing when clinically indicated or requested.

5. Academic & trades qualification:

Essential

M.Sc / M Phil in Clinical Psychology.

Knowledge:

1. Knowledge of counseling concepts and techniques.

2. Knowledge of how to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions.

3. Knowledge of instructional methodology.

Work experience & skills:

1. Prior experience in the mental health field or counseling. Instructional and public speaking experience.

2. Program development experience. Clinical experience in counseling with adults and families.

Skills:

1. Skill in facilitation for therapy and education.

2. Skill in communication and listening skills.

3. Skill In counseling diverse patients and families.
