Job Description

A Psychiatric Social Worker (PSW) plays a crucial role in mental health care, working with individuals, families, and communities to address emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges. They provide support, counseling, and interventions to promote mental well-being and recovery. Key Responsibilities: 1. Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct psychosocial assessments to evaluate patients' mental health, social circumstances, and needs. Collaborate with mental health professionals to develop diagnoses and treatment plans. 2. Therapeutic Interventions: Provide individual, group, and family counseling. Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans to address mental health issues. Use therapeutic techniques like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychoeducation, and stress management strategies. 3. Case Management: Coordinate with healthcare providers, community agencies, and support systems to ensure comprehensive care. Monitor patients' progress and adjust care plans as needed. 4. Advocacy and Support: Advocate for patients' rights and access to appropriate resources. Support clients in accessing housing, financial assistance, and employment services. 5. Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support during mental health crises, such as suicidal ideation or psychotic episodes. Develop safety plans and coordinate with emergency services when required. 6. Education and Prevention: Educate individuals and families about mental health conditions, treatments, and coping strategies. Participate in community awareness programs to reduce stigma and promote mental health. 7. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, interventions, and progress reports. Prepare reports for legal or organizational purposes, when required. Qualifications: Education: Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) with a specialization in psychiatric or clinical social work. Licensing: Relevant licensure or certification as a psychiatric social worker Experience: Clinical experience in mental health settings is preferred. Skills and Competencies: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of mental health disorders and therapeutic techniques. Ability to manage crises effectively. Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude. Proficiency in case management
