Job Purpose The project manager is the person ultimately responsible to the company for the performance of the project, to ensure on time delivery and to achieve or exceed target contribution and margins, while also maintaining quality and a safe working environment. Job Location
  • Either Kerala or Tamil Nadu.
Job Role
  • Must be able to understand the contract, specification and bid package in order to guide the project to its successful completion.
  • Define the project team requirements and request appropriate resources for project office set up and must be able to set up strong Project control mechanisms.
  • Develop, together with the technical group, an overall build strategy and prepare a detailed project schedule to meet the contract delivery terms and conditions.
  • Obtain approval of build strategy and schedule from senior management, production management and the customer.
  • Prepare progress monitoring and cost control programs for the project to meet the contractual performance targets.
  • Develop a project specific quality plan to meet specification requirements and to ensure compliance with the specification and standard ship building practice
  • Execute the project in accordance with the approved schedule and budget in close coordination with all departments / agencies within and outside the organisation like subcontractors, class and other agencies.
  • Managing and co-ordinating subcontractors to support project schedule in most cost effective manner. Guide the procurement / purchase team to ensure on time and cost effective purchasing.
  • Ensure the safety of labour, property and the environment in accordance with Topaz Marine Engineering HSE policies and procedures.
  • Identify and negotiate all extra work claims with the Customer.
  • Periodic comprehensive review and reporting of project progress and preparation of catch-up plans as required.
  • Innovate and develop processes / tools to improve productivity and quality.
  • Training and updating the required job knowledge of the project management group.
  • Effective assessment / appraisal of the project team members and recommendations for recognition.
  • Resolution of all the administrative issues of the project management group and team building.
Qualifications:
  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Marine or Naval Architecture with Project Management Qualification and;
Experience:
  • 10 to 20 years experience in ship building, or technical ship management with proven success in relevant project management. Experience in shipbuilding/barges will be preferred.
Job-Specific Skills:
  • Having sound knowledge of construction and production methodology of ships/ boats with steel and Aluminum Hulls.
  • Must have knowledge of installing and commissioning of ship systems such as marine engines, propulsion systems, auxiliary systems, electrical and instrumentation systems, automation systems, navigation and communication systems, alarm & monitoring systems.
  • Must be able to liaise with class, customer and other statutory agencies from time to time
