Details:Mission and objectives:UNESCO is an intergovernmental organization committed to fostering intellectual and moral solidarity for peace through cooperation in education, culture, the sciences, and communication and information. The organization is headquartered in Paris, France, and has a network of over 50 regional, cluster, and national field offices.UNESCO New Delhi is presently designated as a Cluster Office and is a platform for delivery of activities in all areas of UNESCOs competence, namely, education, the natural and social sciences, culture, communication and information.It implements a biennial Cluster programme that is aligned with the overall goals of the Organization as defined in its quadrennial programme and budget, and medium-term strategy. The implementation of the cluster programme is undertaken through a fundamental operating principle - consultation and consensus with the National Commissions of the Member States, Regional Bureaus, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders and partners.The New Delhi Office is now mandated to cover six countries of South Asia -- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.UNESCO New Delhi Office, the Organizations first decentralized Office in Asia was established in 1948. UNESCO New Delhi is presently designated as a Regional Office and is a platform for delivery of activities in all areas of UNESCOs competence, namely, education, the natural and social sciences, culture, communication and information. It implements a biennial regional programme that is integrated within itself and with the overall goals of the Organization. This is done through a fundamental operating principle - consultation and consensus with the Member States, Regional Bureaus, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders and partners.The Communication and Information (CI) Programme promotes Freedom of expression and safety of journalists online and off-line by countering hate speech, misinformation and disinformation through awareness raising, monitoring, capacity-building, and technical support. This action is guided by the United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists.The CI Programme also supports Media development by strengthening free, independent and pluralistic media, and by creating the conditions necessary for the media to perform effectively. Media and information literacy (MIL) and journalism education institutions are strengthened through policy and curricula development, adaptation and application, and capacity building.The Programme fosters universal access to information and knowledge through the Information for All Programme (IFAP), as well as through Open Solutions, including Open Educational Resources and through the identification, preservation and accessibility of documentary heritage.The Programme aims to strengthen gender equality in media operations and content, and encourages pertinent media coverage of crisis and emergency situations. It contributes to media diversity and pluralism by fostering diverse content, audiences, sources, and systems.Context:The UN Volunteer will assist the Communication and Information Sector of the UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia in the implementation of its programme in South Asia to achieve the above stated Organizations mission and objectives.Task description:Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia and supervision of Advisor for Communication and Information, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
