The organization is rapidly transforming both its people structure and ways of working to better align with our Front Office part of the business and increase the speed and quality of delivery. We have adopted a DevOps model driving agile delivery and building a strong product ownership group. The 2024 change portfolio is nine figures executed by c.1000+ technology professionals globally.Principal responsibilities

• The individual in this role is empowered and accountable to provide hands-on technical expertise to identify and build commercially viable, fit-for-future, and competitive engineering solution. This involves leading the technical delivery of highly complex, business critical, client facing, front-to-back services for the Securities Services business.
• The successful candidate will also be responsible to develop and grow the engineering capability of the Digital Data and Innovation (DDI) functional team globally and Securities Services Technology team in India horizontally, including the oversight of the engineering team in their technical decision making, outcomes & end-product quality.
• The role also carries an expanded responsibility of finding solutions to shared technical challenges across the broader Securities Services Technology organization, as well as investing in talent to build a Principal Engineer pipeline.
• The successful candidate will be able to use their significant expertise and skills to influence and lead key stakeholders within and outside the technology organization such as product owners and business counterparts in the delivery of solutions that adhere to HSBC Technology\'s strategic vision whilst meeting the strategic aims of the DDI business function.
• They will also provide engineering expertise and representation across the wider MSS technology organisation with particular focus on the Securities Services Technology department
• Technology / programming language is not a barrier to getting things done \xe2\x80\x93 the candidate will typically be polyglot and have no issues with learning on the job. They will have a natural understanding for the core technical skills instead of specific frameworks allowing them to be diverse in what they can do.
• Domain expertise in Investment banking is an advantage although not a necessity. Similarly, experience building enterprise scale applications and platforms is beneficial.

Role Purpose and key activities:

• Responsible for all technical decisions \xe2\x80\x93 principles, design, implementation \xe2\x80\x93 for the Digital Data and Innovation within Securities Services - Technology.
• Provide positive, hands-on engineering leadership supported by agile delivery and applying the latest technology solutions and architectures from the wider technology community to deliver change with maximum impact.
• Provide coaching, mentoring and technical guidance for a diverse team of engineers.
• Accountable for technology controls that ensure our systems and services are secure, resilient, and sustainable for the long term and managing the balance between time-to-market and stability with an understanding of the risks involved.
• Through collaboration, driving adoption of best practices across the Securities Services organization.
• Driving a culture of experimentation and innovation within the teams, leading by example with proof-of-concepts and fail-fast, and implementing latest technologies, tools, architectures where required in the tech stack.

RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

• 15-20 years of hands-on experience in developing and implementing software solutions
• Experience of working in an Agile environment with a strong focus on engineering practices and tooling.
• Proven ability to improve developer productivity \xe2\x80\x93 through automation, reusability and other mechanisms.
• Strong technical leadership skills, teambuilder and influencer
• Exposure and success working within a global matrix organization model.
• Ability to liase with other engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to understand and drive the platform, product or service\xe2\x80\x99s direction.
• Gravitas and ability to interact with and advise senior executives.
• Ability to understand business issues and connecting the dots between issues. Compare and contrast different technical solutions and recommend/deliver the most optimal ones to meet business requirements.
• Ability to work within an ambiguous environment, prioritize and reconcile competing demands and resolve complex issues.
• Regularly committing code as part of a production build.

Sector functional requirements:

• Digital Asset Fluency (Added Advantage, Nice to Have). This would include extensive smart contract knowledge together with experience in building private and public block chain.
• Experienced in representing digital asset technology with Clients and Regulators
• Proven implementation of Client journey and design thinking
• Used to translate stakeholder aspiration into technical design.
• Familiarity with Financial Markets and related asset classes will be an advantage.

Sector Technical Requirements:

• Proficient with Cloud native software development
• Proven track record with DevSecOps
• Proven hands on experience in building enterprise wide resilient applications

Sector nice to have:

• Experience with large scale data architecture, across multiple or hybrid Cloud platform
• Familiar with Big Data, Data Lake, Data Mesh and Data Warehousing solutions.
