As a Principal Telecommunications Engineer you will be responsible for development and publishing of Telecommunications Designs to support Network Rail GRIP Stage 3 through to GRIP Stage 8 projects and also publication of RIBA stage E through K reports, calculations, and drawings to enable the Principal contractors to successfully build specific projects. The successful candidate will also be required to mentor junior and graduate engineers and work within a Multi-discipline design team. The right candidate will be well versed and experienced in communications and control systems design for Infrastructure Projects. Responsible for leading the design of telecoms minor and major works projects
Extensive knowledge of Network Rail & LU telecoms equipment, systems and processes and a wide experience of telecoms design.
Undertake design and independent verification of design of telecoms systems that is compliant with technical, safety environmental and quality standards.
To produce integrated design details and supporting documentation using first principles for relevant parts of a new or altered telecoms system.
To undertake telecoms design with minimal rework in accordance with telecoms design competency.
To produce telecoms specifications and other relevant documentation, To undertake and manage IDC checks associated with telecoms design, Assist with internal and external audits.
Conform to internal corporate rules, processes and/or procedures.
To assist as required or instructed, the Design Manager in the execution of his duties.
Provide input in the compilation, review or approval of Quality Management System documentation.
Adhere to all statutory regulations, client standards or specifications where appropriate.
To assist other colleagues in achieving their IRSE design licenses. Mentoring or Training.
To undertake risk assessments and analysis using the appropriate tools and methods required.
To produce and verify telecoms design details including Telecoms designs and associated calculations.
Ability to take ownership of work undertaken \xe2\x80\x93 i.e. not just know how to do the tasks but have the confidence and ability to make suggestions and/or decisions.
Qualifications The candidate must demonstrate the qualifications and experience/capability described below:
Master of Science / Engineering in an electronic communications course of study.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Preferably past experience in mentoring.
Must be pursuing Chartered Engineer (CEng) in a relevant engineering discipline (MIET, etc.).
Extensive experience, preferably in the UK, in leading, producing and checking Telecommunications designs
Underpinning knowledge of Network design principles and significant experience working within a transport environment and good working knowledge of Network Rail, TfL & LUL standards,.
As a Principal Telecommunications Engineer you will need to have detailed knowledge on the design and integration of various systems and subsystems, these will include but not limited to;

Previous experience as Telecommunications CRE, Checker or Project Engineer on GRIP Stage 3 through to 8 projects.
Experience in the preparation of conceptual reports, telecommunications scheme designs, project documentation, specifications, contract schedules, implementation/ construction plans and costings to client requirements.
Provision of specialist technical support and assistance to railway projects, and management of allocated junior support staff.
Expert use of telecommunications design packages and good report writing skills Required Office Software: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook At least one of the following:Bentley Micro station, Autodesk AutoCAD
Knowledge of railway Telecommunications systems, both Operational and Station Information and Security Systems SISS (and the key interactions between other railway assets), and with railway operating practices.
Working knowledge of interfacing and coordination with other rail systems disciplines.
Broad knowledge of rail systems construction methods.
Familiarity with health & safety and systems engineering/design assurance requirements.
Network of technical/engineering contacts within rail client organisations.
