Depending on role and business needs, colleagues will either work onsite, in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and virtual days) or fully virtually.About Enterprise Architecture:Enterprise Architecture is an organization within the Chief Technology Office at American Express and it is a key enabler of the company\xe2\x80\x99s technology strategy. The four pillars of Enterprise Architecture include:1. Architecture as Code: this pillar owns and operates foundational technologies that are leveraged by engineering teams across the enterprise.2. Architecture as Design: this pillar includes the solution and technical design for transformation programs and business critical projects which need architectural guidance and support.3. Governance: this pillar is responsible for defining technical standards, and developing innovative tools that automate controls to ensure compliance.4. Colleague Enablement: this pillar is focused on colleague development, recognition, training, and enterprise outreach.The Role:As American Express makes strides in growing as a bank, the company is entering into a technology governance transformation phase. This is driven by opportunities to define architecture standards, standardize architecture artifact documents format and content, and measure and report on adoption and quality of architecture standards across the enterprise. In addition, this transformation also includes defining and implementing strategies for improving resiliency and strengthening the software delivery lifecycle but further standardizing platform testing practices via defining testing standards, and measurement of adoption and effectiveness of the prescribed standards across the enterprise.This Principal Architect position in Enterprise Architecture will be a thought-leader in the Architecture Governance pillar and provide structure to the disciplines of Architecture Governance and Testing Strategy (examples: Architecture Policies and Standards, measurement and reporting of adherence to architecture standards, regulatory, audit and compliance, etc.). They must have knowledge of executing governance of architecture disciplines at scale in a large enterprise. This person must have excellent thought leadership and a strong ability to influence decisions in a matrixed organization without direct hierarchical reporting structure.Responsibilities:

  • Lead, while collaborating with peers and senior leaders, interfacing with regulatory, compliance and audit governing bodies.
  • Drive key architecture decisions to solve critical complex problems for assigned and adjacent platforms.
  • Provide direction and hands-on expertise as needed to deliver automation-based capabilities for architecture governance at scale across the enterprise.
  • Work with senior level engineers, architects and platform owner to set the platform\xe2\x80\x99s technical direction and strategic objectives.
  • Work with large technology lines of business for adoption and implementation of well-rounded testing capabilities across the enterprise.
  • Align efforts with central architecture function to influence technical standards and progress enterprise objectives.
  • Drive the prescriptions, measurement and reporting of system and subsystem architecture in line with platform POA strategy.
  • Work with the Company Platform Owner and senior architects to guide Technical Platform architecture and engineering teams.
  • Combine in-depth specialty area(s) with broad knowledge of other disciplines to deliver definitive end-to-end architectural mentorship.
  • Partner with business leadership to influence priorities and objectives
  • Focus on driving architecture towards long-term Business Unit/Enterprise goals and objectives.
  • Solve novel problems that impact products and/or technologies.
  • Craft new techniques, methodologies, and concepts for pursuing broad cross-cutting initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of active technology architecture experience in a complex environment and/or comparable experience such as:
  • Successful design, creation and deployment of one or more enterprise-grade technology products
  • Creation and implementation of a widely used framework or set of component libraries
  • Crafting a major platform and seeing it all the way into production
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • Deep knowledge and experience in areas of:
  • Complex, large scale system architecture and design ranging from legacy technologies to modern hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Compliance and regulatory processes and their corresponding measurement and enforcement at scale.
  • Domain Driven Designs
  • Enterprise Architecture Best Practices.
  • Enterprise Architecture Playbook.
  • Versatility in API Design, API Lifecycle Management and Implementation, guiding data or information architecture.
  • Experience in creating OKRs, ROIs, and Architectural assessments.
  • Experience with development and governance of architecture standards, guidelines and Architecture Design Reviews (ADRs).
  • Recognized as a source of unique thought leadership, influencing, collaborating, and mentoring architects and engineers across the enterprise.
  • Successful solution architecture implementation that impacts assigned and adjacent Company Platforms.
  • Direct correlation between research, recommendation, implementation and widescale impact of new technologies.
  • Consistent track record of in crafting fault-tolerant, scalable solution architectures that are performance at a global enterprise scale.
  • Proficient in crafting large-scale solutions through loosely coupled cross-platform system integration.
  • Experienced level solution architecture skills with wide-ranging experience; able to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Broad knowledge of all elements of software delivery including build, test, deployment, and operations.
