Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Pre-Vocational Teacher to join our team and provide specialized instruction to children with special needs in a pre-vocational course. The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing students for independent living and future vocational pursuits by teaching essential life and vocational skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development:
o Assist the Pre-Voc Head in developing and adapting pre-vocational curriculum to meet the unique needs and abilities of students with special needs.
o Assist in designing engaging lesson plans and learning activities that promote the development of practical skills such as personal hygiene, time management, money handling, and basic vocational skills.
Instructional Delivery:
o Deliver high-quality instruction using a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs.
o Provide direct instruction in vocational skills, including skill readiness, workplace communication, and basic vocational tasks.
Pre-Vocational Skills Development:
o Teach basic workplace skills such as following instructions, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management.
o Introduce students to various vocational fields and career options through exploration activities and guest speakers.
o Provide hands-on training in tasks related to specific vocational interests, such as food service, retail, office administration, or manual labor.
o Teach essential safety practices and procedures relevant to different work environments.
o Incorporate technology training to develop computer literacy and proficiency in software applications commonly used in the workplace.
Individualized Support:
o Assess students' strengths, challenges, and learning styles to develop individualized learning plans and goals.
o Provide personalized support and accommodations to help students overcome barriers and maximize their potential.
Progress Monitoring:
o Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and data collection.
o Use assessment data to inform instructional decisions and adjust teaching strategies as needed to ensure student success.
Behavior Management:
o Implement positive behavior support strategies to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
o Use proactive approaches to prevent challenging behaviors and teach students appropriate social and behavioral skills.
Collaboration:
o Collaborate with other members of the special education team, including therapists, paraprofessionals, and support staff, to meet the diverse needs of students.
o Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to share student progress and solicit input on individualized goals and interventions.
Community Integration:
o Facilitate opportunities for students to apply pre-vocational skills in real-world settings through community-based instruction, job shadowing, internships, and vocational training programs.
o Foster partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create meaningful learning experiences for students.
Professional Development:
o Stay informed about best practices and trends in special education and vocational training.
o Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to supporting students with special needs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Vocational Education, Home Science, or a related field.
Experience working with children or adolescents with special needs, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, or developmental delays.
Knowledge of vocational assessment tools, transition planning, and community resources for individuals with disabilities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and community partners.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the growth and development of children with special needs.
Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported.
