Job Description

Power Transmission Lines:

Power transmission lines are the infrastructure used to carry electrical energy from power plants (such as those operated by NTPC) to substations and then to distribution networks. Key points include:

• High Voltage (HV) Lines: These lines operate at higher voltages (typically above 69 kV) to minimize energy losses over long distances.
• Transmission Towers: Also known as pylons or transmission towers, these structures support the overhead power lines. They are designed to withstand environmental factors (like wind load and ice accumulation) and are spaced at intervals to maintain structural integrity.
• Materials and Construction: Transmission lines can be constructed from various materials, including steel, aluminum, and sometimes composite materials to balance cost, strength, and weight considerations.

Cable Towers:

Cable towers refer to the supports or structures used in the installation of underground or submarine power cables. This is often a consideration in urban areas or environmentally sensitive regions where overhead transmission lines are not suitable. Key aspects include:

• Submarine Cable Towers: These are structures designed to support underwater power cables, ensuring they are securely installed and protected from environmental impacts.
• Underground Cable Structures: In urban areas, underground cable towers (or supports) help maintain the integrity and protection of buried power cables, facilitating safe and reliable power distribution.

NTPC and BHEL Experience:

Both NTPC and BHEL are prominent entities in the power sector in India:

• NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation): NTPC is India's largest power utility with an installed capacity of over 60 GW, primarily focused on thermal power generation. They are involved in the construction and operation of power plants across India, including transmission infrastructure.
• BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited): BHEL is a leading manufacturer of electrical equipment in India, including power generation and transmission equipment. They provide solutions for both conventional and renewable energy sectors, including transformers, switchgear, and transmission equipment.

Preferred Practices and Experience:

When it comes to power transmission infrastructure, NTPC and BHEL have extensive experience and follow best practices in:

• Design and Engineering: Developing robust designs for transmission towers and cable supports that meet safety, reliability, and environmental standards.
• Manufacturing: Producing high-quality transmission equipment and structures using advanced manufacturing processes.
• Installation and Maintenance: Ensuring proper installation and ongoing maintenance of transmission lines and cable towers to maximize efficiency and reliability of the power grid.
