TECH Job Family: Platform Engineering Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization: The role builds, operates and improves commonly required capabilities to create and run applications in a modern way. Supports and consults business IT teams about the usage of these platform(s) and services to focus on delivering value at high speed. Key Responsibilities: Specialist advice \xe2\x80\xa2 Actively maintains knowledge in one or more identifiable specialisms. \xe2\x80\xa2 Provides detailed and specific advice regarding the application of their specialism(s) to the organization\'s planning and operations. \xe2\x80\xa2 Recognizes and identifies the boundaries of their own specialist knowledge. \xe2\x80\xa2 Collaborates with other specialists, where appropriate, to ensure advice given is appropriate to the needs of the organization. Emerging technology monitoring \xe2\x80\xa2 Supports monitoring of the external environment and assessment of emerging technologies to evaluate the potential impacts, threats, and opportunities to the organization. \xe2\x80\xa2 Contributes to the creation of reports, technology road mapping and the sharing of knowledge and insights. Programming/software engineering \xe2\x80\xa2 Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends, and refactors complex programs/scripts and integration software services. \xe2\x80\xa2 Contributes to selection of the software development approach for projects, selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. \xe2\x80\xa2 Applies agreed standards and tools, to achieve well-engineered outcomes. \xe2\x80\xa2 Participates in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues\' work. Date: August 2022 Page 2 of 4 System design \xe2\x80\xa2 Designs components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns, and methodology. \xe2\x80\xa2 Identifies and evaluates alternative design options and trade-offs. \xe2\x80\xa2 Creates multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders of the architecture and to handle both functional and non-functional requirements. \xe2\x80\xa2 Models, simulates, or prototypes the behavior of proposed systems components to enable approval by stakeholders. \xe2\x80\xa2 Produces detailed design specification to form the basis for construction of systems. Reviews, verifies, and improves own designs against specifications. Database design \xe2\x80\xa2 Develops and maintains specialist knowledge of database and data warehouse concepts, design principles, architectures, software, and facilities. \xe2\x80\xa2 Assesses proposed changes to object/data structures, to evaluate alternative options. \xe2\x80\xa2 Implements physical database designs to support transactional data requirements for performance and availability. \xe2\x80\xa2 Implements data warehouse designs that support demands for business intelligence and data analytics. Testing \xe2\x80\xa2 Reviews requirements and specifications and defines test conditions. \xe2\x80\xa2 Designs test cases and test scripts under own direction, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, recording and reporting outcomes. \xe2\x80\xa2 Analyses and reports test activities and results. \xe2\x80\xa2 Identifies and reports issues and risks associated with own work. Systems integration and build \xe2\x80\xa2 Defines the software modules needed for an integration build and produces a build definition for each generation of the software. \xe2\x80\xa2 Accepts completed software modules, ensuring that they meet defined criteria. \xe2\x80\xa2 Produces software builds from software source code for loading onto target hardware. \xe2\x80\xa2 Configures the hardware and software environment as required by the system being integrated. \xe2\x80\xa2 Produces integration test specifications, conducts tests and records and reports on outcomes. \xe2\x80\xa2 Diagnoses faults and records and reports on the results of tests. Produces system integration reports. Date: August 2022 Page 3 of 4 Porting/software configuration \xe2\x80\xa2 Configures software and equipment and tests platform-specific versions of one or more software products. \xe2\x80\xa2 Reports the outcome of testing and identifies potential improvements to the process and to the software products according to agreed designs and standards. Service level management \xe2\x80\xa2 Performs defined tasks to monitor service delivery against service level agreements and maintains records of relevant information. \xe2\x80\xa2 Analyses service records against agreed service levels regularly to identify actions required to maintain or improve levels of service, and initiates or reports these actions. Release and deployment \xe2\x80\xa2 Assesses and analyses release components. \xe2\x80\xa2 Provides input to scheduling. \xe2\x80\xa2 Carries out the builds and tests in coordination with testers and component specialists maintaining and administering the tools and methods - manual or automatic - and ensuring, where possible, information exchange with configuration management. \xe2\x80\xa2 Ensures release processes and procedures are maintained.
