We are seeking a Plant Nursery Manager with a background in agriculture/ horticulture to develop and manage a native plant nursery for Grassland Restoration Project in Bagepalli, Karnataka. The candidate should have knowledge about native plants and should use his/her experience to further grow grasses, saplings from the native seeds/ plant cuttings and help in the restoration of the degraded common grazing lands (•Gomalas•). This position requires a qualified candidate to oversee work related to the nursery including, but not limited to, setting up of the nursery, building shade houses, preparation of plant beds, seed harvesting, growing saplings, maintenance of saplings of native grasses, plants and trees, and taking care of all the activities related to the nursery.


Duration: 2 years with three months probationary period which can be extended based upon the performance.


Salary: Commensurate with experience.


### Responsibilities


• Setting up the nursery and procuring saplings from other nurseries.


• Determine species of native plants to be grown as per the habitat.


• Overseeing the activities of the nursery.


• Monitor and manage the nursery and the saplings; ensure timely replanting of saplings, manuring, weeding, watering and adding organic fertilizers. Keep the plants healthy and monitor them for any pests and diseases.


• Ensure adequate protection for plants in the nursery.


• Hire/supervise assistants and assign work; train staff in efficient nursery operations and proper plant care.


• Ability to do physical outdoor work for extended hours, even during weekends.


• Manage planting activities in the degraded •Gomalas• and maintain the planted saplings in good condition with proper fencing and finally help in restoring the vegetation in the degraded habitat


### Qualifications


• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in agriculture, horticulture, Botany or with any Bachelor's degree and good knowledge of setting up and managing a plant nursery.
• Experience in nursery management; minimum 1 year experience is a must.
• Should work independently and should be able to manage data and records.
• Computer proficiency with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication skills (English, Kannada, and Telugu languages are preferred)
