Job Title: Planning Manager
Location: Kumarapalayam, Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, India.
Job Summary:
The Planning Manager will be responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring project schedules to ensure timely delivery and resource optimization. This role involves collaborating closely with project managers, site engineers, and other stakeholders to plan and oversee the timely and cost-efficient execution of large-scale construction projects. The Planning Manager will also ensure that all project activities are aligned with budgetary constraints, timelines, and resource allocation.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Scheduling:
• Develop Project Schedules: Create comprehensive project schedules using Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent planning tools. Break down project scope into manageable tasks, timelines, and resource plans. Identify key milestones and deadlines for project phases.
• Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, site engineers, and subcontractors to ensure alignment of schedules with overall project plans. Ensure project schedules are integrated with cost estimates and procurement plans.
• Monitor Schedule Progress: Track and update project schedules regularly, comparing actual progress to planned timelines. Identify any deviations and ensure timely corrective actions are taken to mitigate delays.
• Manage Schedule Changes: Respond to unforeseen changes by adjusting project schedules and ensuring stakeholders are informed about updated timelines. Manage schedule impacts caused by variations, client requests, or unforeseen site conditions.
Cost Control and Budget Alignment:
• Coordinate with Quantity Surveying Team: Ensure that project schedules align with the cost plan, bill of quantities (BOQs), and available resources. Collaborate with the QS team to assess cost impacts of schedule changes and develop mitigation plans.
• Prepare Budget Proposals: Provide inputs for cost estimates, resource allocation, and cash flow projections during project planning. Monitor project costs to ensure expenditures align with the approved budget.
Risk and Resource Management:
• Identify Project Risks: Anticipate potential risks that may affect the schedule and cost, such as resource availability, delays, and weather impacts. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure project timelines are maintained.
• Resource Allocation: Oversee the allocation of resources (manpower, materials, and equipment) in line with the project schedule. Work with procurement and QS teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and subcontractor services.
Reporting and Documentation:
• Generate Progress Reports: Provide regular updates on schedule progress, delays, and changes to project stakeholders. Prepare monthly reports detailing project performance, key milestones, and critical path analysis.
• Coordinate Stakeholder Communication: Lead planning meetings with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to review schedules, address concerns, and ensure clarity on project timelines.
Key Skills & Competencies:
• Project Scheduling Expertise: Strong proficiency in using project planning tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, and other relevant software to manage and track schedules.
• Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to foresee delays, identify potential bottlenecks, and develop solutions to ensure project timelines are adhered to.
• Communication and Leadership: Excellent communication skills for leading meetings and collaborating with cross-functional teams, clients, and subcontractors. Ability to convey complex schedule information in a clear and concise manner.
• Cost Management and Budgeting: Strong understanding of cost management principles, ensuring that schedules are aligned with budget constraints.
• Risk Management: Ability to anticipate risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to minimize project delays.
• Attention to Detail: Strong focus on accuracy when developing and updating schedules and tracking project milestones.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 5-8 years of experience in construction planning and project management. Proven experience in managing schedules for large-scale infrastructure or commercial construction projects.
