The Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre (SGACC) is one of India's oldest animal shelters and is dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support for animals in need. With a focus on rescue, rehabilitation, and medical treatment, SGACC is committed to creating a humane and compassionate environment for animals. We are seeking skilled and compassionate paravets to support our veterinary team in delivering high-quality animal care.

Position Summary:

The paravet will work closely with veterinarians and animal care staff to support medical treatments, conduct basic health assessments, assist with surgeries, and provide routine care for animals at the shelter. This role is essential for ensuring the well-being and proper care of animals in our facility and requires a passion for animal welfare, attention to detail, and the ability to handle animals compassionately.

Key Responsibilities:

• Medical Assistance: Assist veterinarians in medical examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments for animals.
• Surgical Assistance: Prepare animals for surgery, assist during procedures, and provide post-operative care, including monitoring recovery.
• Routine Health Care: Administer prescribed medications, perform wound cleaning, bandaging, and other minor medical procedures as directed by veterinarians.
• Vaccination & Preventive Care: Support vaccination and deworming programs and ensure all animals are up-to-date on preventive health measures.
• Animal Handling & Restraint: Safely handle and restrain animals during examinations, procedures, and treatments, ensuring minimal stress to the animals.
• Monitoring & Record-Keeping: Monitor animals' health and behavior daily, report any changes or issues, and maintain accurate records of treatments and observations.
• Facility Maintenance: Help maintain a clean and hygienic environment in animal care areas, including kennels, treatment rooms, and recovery spaces.
• Public Engagement: Occasionally assist with educating visitors or the public on animal welfare and health issues.

Requirements:

• Experience: 1-2 years of experience working with animals, preferably in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or rescue facility.
• Skills: Basic knowledge of animal health care and common treatments. Proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques.
• Physical Ability: Capability to handle animals of various sizes and physical conditions, including lifting, restraining, and assisting with medical procedures.
• Compassionate Nature: A genuine concern for animal welfare and the patience and empathy needed to work with animals in distress.
• Communication: Ability to follow instructions, work well within a team, and communicate effectively with staff and visitors.
