Conducting Eye Examinations : Performing comprehensive eye exams to check for vision problems and ocular diseases.
• Diagnosing Vision Issues : Identifying refractive errors (e.g., myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) and other eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
• Prescribing Corrective Lenses : Recommending eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct vision problems.
• Managing Eye Diseases : Offering treatment plans or referrals for conditions such as dry eyes, infections, and chronic diseases like glaucoma.
• Providing Vision Therapy : Assisting patients with exercises or therapies to treat issues like lazy eye or eye alignment problems.
• Prescribing Medications : In some regions, optometrists can prescribe medications for certain eye conditions.
• Counseling Patients : Advising patients on proper eye care, including hygiene, protection, and preventive measures.
• Pre- and Post-Surgical Care : Offering care and follow-up for patients who have undergone eye surgery, like LASIK or cataract surgery.
• Collaboration with Other Health Professionals : Working alongside ophthalmologists and other healthcare providers when specialized or advanced treatments are required.
• Maintaining Records : Documenting patient history, examination results, and treatment plans
