Staff management

Recruiting, training, and assigning nursing staff, and providing guidance and counseling to subordinates

Quality management

Ensuring quality control in nursing services, and establishing criteria to meet quality standards

Policy implementation

Implementing hospital policies, and communicating and interpreting policies and procedures to nursing staff

Resource management

Planning and managing resources, including linen, equipment, and hazardous materials

Professional development

Planning and participating in nursing in-service training, and representing the nursing profession at conferences and seminars

Discipline

Maintaining discipline among nursing and auxiliary staff, and initiating disciplinary action for noncompliance
