Job Summary:
The News Video Editor is responsible for editing and assembling recorded video footage into a finished product that aligns with the network's editorial standards and storytelling goals. The role involves working closely with producers, reporters, and other team members to ensure high-quality and visually compelling content for broadcast or digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
• Video Editing:
• Edit raw video footage into news segments, packages, or full-length programs.
• Ensure seamless transitions, proper pacing, and compelling storytelling.
• Incorporate graphics, sound effects, and music as needed.
• Collaboration:
• Work with producers and reporters to understand the story's narrative and editorial intent.
• Provide creative input on visual storytelling and pacing.
• Technical Proficiency:
• Operate professional video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer).
• Perform basic color correction, audio mixing, and image stabilization.
• Content Management:
• Organize and archive video files for easy retrieval.
• Ensure all content complies with copyright and usage policies.
• Quality Control:
• Review all edited material to ensure technical quality and adherence to station guidelines.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during editing.
• Timeliness:
• Meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced news environment.
• Prioritize tasks to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Innovation:
• Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and techniques to enhance storytelling and production quality.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Film, Media, Journalism, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory with relevant experience).
• Experience:
• At least 2-3 years of video editing experience in a newsroom or similar environment.
• Familiarity with broadcast and online video standards.
• Skills:
• Proficient in video editing software.
• Strong attention to detail and visual storytelling abilities.
• Excellent communication and time-management skills.
