Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and maintain our SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in database patching , configuration , performance tuning , and managing hardware changes . You will work closely with development teams to review database designs, improve performance, ensure best practices, and minimize the risks associated with database changes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Database Patching and Configuration:
• Plan, test, and execute database patching for SQL Server environments to ensure security and stability .
• Configure and optimize SQL Server instances based on application requirements and performance objectives.
• Troubleshoot SQL Server configurations and ensure high availability and disaster recovery mechanisms (e.g., AlwaysOn, Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication) are in place.
2. Performance Optimization:
• Continuously monitor database performance , identify bottlenecks, and implement query tuning strategies to improve efficiency and reduce latency.
• Address issues related to slow queries , index fragmentation , locking and blocking , and hardware limitations .
• Use monitoring tools (e.g., SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events) to detect performance issues and implement corrective actions.
3. Hardware and System Changes:
• Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to evaluate and upgrade hardware configurations to ensure optimal performance .
• Plan and coordinate hardware changes with minimal disruption to business operations.
• Assess and mitigate the impact of hardware changes on database performance and availability .
4. Collaboration with Development Teams:
• Work closely with developers to review, optimize, and approve SQL code and database schema changes.
• Provide guidance on indexing , query optimization , and best practices for database design .
• Develop and communicate database improvement plans and potential risks associated with changes.
5. Risk Assessment and Change Management:
• Evaluate risks associated with database modifications and patching , and develop strategies to minimize these risks.
• Implement and enforce change management processes to ensure thorough testing and minimize disruptions to production environments.
• Maintain detailed documentation of all changes, optimizations, and upgrades for future reference.
6. Database Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
• Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, indexing, and integrity checks.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents and problems within defined SLAs .
• Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement long-term solutions to improve database stability .
Requirements:
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Information Technology , or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA .
• Proven experience with database patching , configuration , and performance tuning .
• Strong understanding of SQL Server internals , database architecture, and hardware requirements.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency with SQL Server (versions 2016 and later).
• Strong knowledge of indexing , query optimization , and performance tuning techniques.
• Familiarity with SQL Server monitoring and profiling tools .
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn, Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication).
• Understanding of Windows Server environments and hardware configurations for database performance.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms like Azure SQL or AWS RDS is a plus.
Soft Skills:
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills .
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented , proactive , and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certifications : Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate , MCSA: SQL Server , or similar certifications.
• Scripting Knowledge : Proficiency in PowerShell or T-SQL for automation and scripting tasks.
• SQL Server on Linux : Familiarity with running SQL Server on Linux environments.
Preferred Candidates:
