Job Description

The Underwriter's primary responsibilities include reviewing mortgage files submitted to Underwriting. This position requires calculating income, analyzing debt and assets, as well as completing an in-depth review of the completed appraisal and title. Additional responsibilities include entering data into the client's loan operating system, utilizing an automated underwriting system to determine approval and clearing conditions for Final Approval. Candidates must possess a strong sense of urgency with an ability to work in a team environment, maintaining excellent organizational, communication, and PC skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Reviews loan files submitted for borrowers to ensure file meets loan program requirements. Includes analysis of loan

Review of mortgage loan files including; income (inclusive of rental income

IRA, annuity and 401K), assets, credit and collateral appraisal reports, collateral and supporting documentation

Resolve pre and post-closing issues as they relate to underwriting

Analyze income from salaried, commissioned, self-employed, investment and fixed income sources

Complete POA review

Utilize client's loan operating system to ensure accurate data entry

Conditions files for missing/supporting documentation

Revisits loans to review and clear conditions as documents are received

Escalates potential fraud files to Credit Manager / Risk Management team

Communicate status and decisions (approval, suspense, denial) to the appropriate individuals in accordance with company

Manually underwrite loans in accordance with client guidelines

Provide excellent customer service to internal clients by demonstrating expertise, accuracy, thoroughness, thoughtfulness, politeness, enthusiasm and clearly conveying requirements in written format

Update system with all appropriate information

Interpret policies and program requirements while analyzing applicant information, property and documentation
