Job Description

:

The role involves supporting the Lab Manager in managing the day-to-day operations of a 17025 accredited metallurgical laboratory. The key responsibilities include performing metallurgical failure analysis, conducting mechanical and corrosion tests, and coordinating with clients and third-party witnesses. The candidate will be involved in field testing and must ensure compliance with international standards and project specifications.

Core Responsibilities:

• Ensure work compliance to ISO 17025 requirements while performing metallurgical failure analysis on failed metallic (ferrous and non-ferrous) components, generating failure investigation reports with technical findings.
• Carry out mechanical tests for material properties evaluation and weld procedure specification qualification as per various international standards (ASME, API, AWS, and BS). These tests include:
• Tensile Test: Measures a material's strength by pulling on a specimen until it breaks.
• Impact Test: Evaluates a material's toughness, especially its resistance to sudden fracture.
• Nick-Break Test: A simple qualification test for welds to assess weld brittleness.
• Bend Test: Checks the ductility of a material.
• Macro Examination: Examines the internal structure of a material by grinding and etching a polished surface.
• CTOD (Crack Tip Opening Displacement): A fracture toughness test to assess a material's resistance to crack propagation.
• Conduct corrosion tests as per NACE standards and other project specifications to determine the susceptibility of materials to corrosion in various service conditions. Common NACE standards include:
• NACE TM0177: Evaluates a metal's resistance to sulfide stress cracking in H2S environments.
• NACE TM0284: Deals with hydrogen-induced cracking in various environments.
• Perform metallographic examinations on various materials to determine grain size, cleanliness, volume percentage of phases, and general microstructure evaluation.
• Coordinate with clients and third-party witnesses regarding testing details.
• Participate in site/field testing.
• Manage and work with technicians to carry out work as per the planning schedule.

Qualifications:

• Education: BE/B.Tech in Metallurgy. OR Diploma into Metallurgy or related field.
• Experience: At least 2 years as a failure analyst and a total of 5 years of overall experience in the field.
• Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent report writing skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Company Culture:

• Working Hours: 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM
• Working Days: 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday)

Details of Compensation:

• Salary: INR 50,000/- to 60,000/- per month (in hand)
• Benefits: Medical + PF
