Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Officer (MBBS/PMR) to join our Wound Clinic team. The role focuses on the management and treatment of patients with various types of wounds, including chronic wounds, surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, and traumatic injuries. The Medical Officer will play a key role in evaluating, diagnosing, and developing treatment plans for patients, working closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best care for those under treatment. This position is ideal for someone with a background in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR), wound care, and a compassionate approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Evaluation and Diagnosis:

• Conduct detailed patient assessments to diagnose various types of wounds, including chronic, surgical, diabetic, and traumatic wounds.
• Take comprehensive medical histories, perform physical examinations, and order appropriate diagnostic tests as needed.
• Identify underlying medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, circulatory disorders) contributing to wound formation and healing challenges.

Develop Treatment Plans:

• Design personalized treatment plans for wound healing, including selection of appropriate dressings, medications, and therapies.
• Recommend advanced wound care treatments, such as debridement, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), bio-engineered skin substitutes, and compression therapy.
• Coordinate care for patients, adjusting treatment plans based on wound healing progress and complications.

Wound Management:

• Perform regular wound assessments, monitor wound healing progress, and adjust treatment protocols as necessary.
• Administer wound care procedures, including debridement, dressing changes, and wound cleaning.
• Educate patients on proper wound care techniques, infection prevention, and the importance of following treatment regimens.

Pain Management:

• Assess and manage pain related to wounds using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods.
• Prescribe pain management solutions, including topical treatments, medications, or referrals to pain specialists as needed.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

• Collaborate with physiotherapists, nurses, dietitians, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
• Work closely with other medical professionals, such as endocrinologists, vascular surgeons, and dermatologists, for specialized care of patients with underlying conditions affecting wound healing.

Patient Education and Counseling:

• Educate patients and their families on wound care, hygiene practices, and lifestyle modifications that can help promote healing.
• Provide counseling on managing underlying conditions such as diabetes, circulation issues, and other risk factors for chronic wounds.

Follow-up Care and Monitoring:

• Schedule regular follow-up appointments to monitor the healing process and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
• Ensure long-term management strategies for patients with chronic wounds, focusing on preventing recurrence and complications.

Documentation and Record Keeping:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records of patient assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
• Ensure proper documentation of all medical procedures and patient interactions in compliance with clinic protocols.

Infection Control and Safety:

• Ensure that all wound care procedures are conducted in a sterile and safe environment to minimize the risk of infection.
• Monitor for any signs of infection or complications in wounds and implement necessary interventions to prevent further harm.

Quality Improvement:

• Participate in clinic quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
• Stay informed about the latest research, wound care techniques, and treatment protocols to continually enhance patient care outcomes.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) or PMR (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) degree from an accredited institution.
• Postgraduate training or specialization in wound care, rehabilitation, or a related field is advantageous.

Experience:

• Minimum of [2-3] years of clinical experience in wound care, physical medicine, and rehabilitation, or related specialties.
• Proven experience in managing chronic and complex wounds, including diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, and post-surgical wounds.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting is a plus.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of wound healing processes, wound care products, and advanced therapies (e.g., NPWT, bio-engineered skin).
• Expertise in managing pain related to wounds and providing rehabilitation therapies.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with other medical professionals.
• Excellent communication skills for educating and counseling patients on proper wound care and treatment adherence.
• Compassionate approach to patient care, with the ability to manage patients with complex, long-term conditions.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform hands-on wound care procedures, including debridement and dressing changes.
• Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients as needed during rehabilitation or mobility training.

Work Conditions:

• Full-time or part-time position available.
• Clinic hours, with potential for weekend or evening shifts depending on patient needs.
• Compensation based on qualifications and experience.
