Design Engineer responsible for design development of mechanical systems and equipment for commercial nuclear power generation facilities as well as US government department of defense (DOD) and department of energy (DOE) facilities. Responsible for mechanical systems and equipment design and procurement decisions and application of nuclear codes and standards and NRC regulations. Must have experience and working knowledge of NRC design criteria and requirements specific to mechanical systems and equipment design, operation, and maintenance. Work scope involves interfaces with multiple Fluor offices, disciplines, subcontractors and client. Additional responsibilities include: - Design Engineer or Area Lead on assigned projects or complex engineering assignments - Perform mechanical system design evaluations and provide guidance to others in the application of nuclear codes and standards and licensing requirements. - Write/review specifications and scopes of work - Requisition mechanical equipment and technical evaluation of vendor quotations. - Adherence to Quality Assurance programs - Incorporate health, safety, and environmental factors in design - Organize/plan complex mechanical engineering tasks - Prepare mechanical systems and equipment design documentation to satisfy project requirements - Prepare mechanical equipment and bulk quantity estimates for proposals and projects - Prepare manpower forecasts/staffing plans - Support project schedule development - Provide assistance, as requested, in the areas of schedules, estimates, progress reports, meetings, and procurement activities - Assist in the development of department standards and procedures - Perform and check engineering studies and calculations - Utilize vendor data and work with personnel from other disciplines as required for the performance of designs. - Assist in the development of engineers and designers, especially in the area of government projects undertaking and nuclear industry requirements and practices - Plan, organize, and schedule work tasks for the team - Identify, analyze, and resolve problems - Review supplier drawings for information relative to design of government and commercial nuclear facilities. - Provide construction and commissioning support with occasional site visits. - Support proposal development and required estimating - Review supplier drawings for information relative to design of government and commercial nuclear facilities. - Perform squad check of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines - Write/review design criteria and system descriptions - Work with project/client/field, material procurement, permit, and subcontract activities - Serve as a technical consultant to other leads and functions as mentor to less experienced engineers - Assist with Supplier, NRC, Government and Internal Audits - Prepare and present technical and marketing presentations related to government facility and power plant designs - Perform factory acceptance inspections and witness tests of procured equipment Position will require occasional travel and potential for planned and unplanned overtime to meet project schedules. Basic Job Requirements - Minimum 10 years work related experience in: (1) Power plant equipment and system design (2) DOD and DOE projects and operating facilities (3) Engineering work processes - BS in engineering (or related) degree required - Registered professional engineer (PE) preferred - Nuclear power plant design of commercial nuclear power facilities - Nuclear industry mechanical design work of DOE/DOD government facilities - Process systems, plant equipment, mechanical system interfaces and control system interfaces - Possess understanding and detailed working knowledge of applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulations, NRC guidance, and Standard Review Plan - Knowledge/familiarity of quality assurance for nuclear plant, including 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B and 10 CFR Part 52 and ASME NQA-1 - Ability to prepare and present technical and marketing presentations related to mechanical equipment and systems - Self starter and proactive in performing required activities and resolving technical issues. - Highly motivated, and able to effectively handle technical challenges. - Ability to take complex problems and effectively simplify communication of problem and proposed resolution for lay person understanding - Ability to set and meet aggressive targets - Strong organization and problem solving skills - Good written and oral communication skills and presentation skills. - Work effectively with clients, vendors, management, and other team members - Direct work of other engineers and designers and assist in the development of less experienced team members - Provide guidance to team members in the application of nuclear codes and standards and licensing requirements. - Proficient with MS Office and computer tools - US Citizen or US Legal Resident - Ability to obtain US Government security clearances To be Considered Candidates: Must be authorized to work in the country where the position is located.
