Job Overview:
The Mechanical Designer provides solutions to problems in the Mechanical discipline without supervisory approval and will evaluate and select solutions from established operating procedures and scientific procedures.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Prepare engineering drawings/mechanical datasheets to scale sketches of equipment as per Project requirement i.e., for Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Columns, Storage Tanks, Reactors, etc., and ensure clarity with fabrication feasibility
• Incorporate the Requisition engineer comments in engineering drawings/mechanical datasheets
• Incorporate IDC comments in coordination with RE/Lead engineer
• Apply basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned work
• Continue developing skills to efficiently complete repetitive tasks
• Set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives and deadlines set by the Lead/Requisition Engineer
• Keep the Lead/Requisition Engineer apprised of all activities, progress, and concerns
• Support the Requisition Engineer to close other internal disciplines' comments
• Become familiar with Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issue
• Identify changes to scope and promptly notify the Requisition Engineer
• Capture Lessons learned and enter them in the McDermott System
• Attend Design Review meetings
• Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards, or Procedures with a particular focus on Health and Safety Policies
• Uses communication skills to exchange ideas and information effectively
• Expands skills and knowledge via performing a variety of activities and maintaining appropriate licenses, training, and /or certificates as needed
Reports to:
Project: Requisition Engineer/Mechanical Lead Engineer
Functional: Supervising Design or Department Manager
Liaise with: Lead Engineer, Requisition Engineers, and other designers (mechanical and inter-discipline)
Supervises: May be required to assist or provide guidance to trainee/associate designers
Essential Qualifications and Education:
• 3 years min with major contractor or consultant
• High School graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience
• Good knowledge of AutoCAD (2D/3D)
• Familiar with the associated local regulatory environment and international and national industry standards and specifications
• Knowledge of Navisworks/Smart plant review Software
• Eager to learn
• Good command over English language, both oral and written
• HSE, TQM, and cost-conscious
• Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
• The reassignment to other departments, construction sites, and fabrication yards
• The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
• The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
• The managing/learning of future current working methods and software applications
• Is familiar with the use of latest edition codes and standards
