Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and skilled Manual Designer to join our design team specializing in plan (or flat) gold jewellery. The Manual Designer will be responsible for creating intricate and visually appealing designs for a wide range of gold jewellery pieces using traditional manual design techniques, including hand sketching, drawing, and rendering. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong sense of creativity, and a deep understanding of jewellery design principles, particularly for plan gold jewellery.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design Creation: Conceptualize, sketch, and develop original manual designs for plan gold jewellery pieces such as rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other accessories.
• Hand Sketching: Utilize hand-drawing techniques to create detailed design blueprints and artwork for jewellery pieces, ensuring precision and clarity.
• CAD/Manual Design Integration: Work in collaboration with CAD designers (if applicable) to transition manual sketches into digital formats or to ensure the manual designs meet production requirements.
• Customization: Customize designs as per client specifications, ensuring customer preferences for style, size, stone setting, and other elements are accurately captured.
• Material Knowledge: Utilize knowledge of gold alloys, gemstones, and other materials to design pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also feasible for production.
• Trend Awareness: Stay up-to-date with current design trends, fashion movements, and market demands to ensure designs are modern and competitive within the gold jewellery industry.
• Prototyping Support: Assist in the prototyping phase by reviewing samples and making necessary adjustments to designs based on production feasibility or client feedback.
• Quality Control: Ensure all designs are up to the highest standard of quality, maintaining attention to detail in each element of the design process, from initial sketch to final product.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the production team, other designers, and marketing professionals to align designs with business objectives and customer needs.
Requirements:
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in manual jewellery design, specifically with plan gold jewellery.
• Skills:
• Strong proficiency in hand-sketching and manual drawing techniques.
• Excellent understanding of gold jewellery manufacturing processes and materials.
• Creative flair and a strong portfolio of previous design work (physical sketches and/or images of previous pieces).
• Education: A degree or certification in Jewellery Design, Fine Arts, or a related field is preferred.
• Attention to Detail: High attention to precision and detail in both artistic and technical aspects of design.
• Communication: Good communication skills, able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and adapt designs based on technical constraints or client requests.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with jewellery CAD software (e.g., Rhino, Matrix) is a plus, though not required.
• Knowledge of gemstone setting techniques and other jewellery crafting skills.
• Experience working with high-end or luxury gold jewellery brands.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to design both traditional and modern styles in gold jewellery.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to work for extended hours in a design studio or workshop environment.
• Must be able to handle intricate, detailed work and work on small-scale designs.
