The Engineering Manager will drive the engineering practices within Kaplan's engineering team. In this role, you will be a key component in growing the team and guiding software development to successfully scale, as our business grows. As a leader on the team, you will be charged with solving complex technology problems in an agile environment, constantly learning and adapting to rapidly evolving customer needs.
Primary Responsibilities• Manage a team of software engineers to architect, design, build and test enterprise software applications.
• Ensure that the Kaplan software development lifecycle processes are followed, and where appropriate contribute to improvement of those processes.
• Participate in architecture discussions for product development and advocate use of automation in development practices likeCI, testing, operational efficiency, etc.
• Work with the Executive Director, other development managers, and diverse teams including product owners, scrum master, devops, database and UI specialists, in order to get work done efficiently.
• Work with appropriate technology teams including the offshore team in order to analyze, troubleshoot, communicate, and effectively prioritize system-related issues.
• Grow the technical expertise of your team around quality, scalability, performance, resilience, and fault tolerance of software systems being built using state of the art tools.
• Support the delivery of working software with QA team members into production environments, recommend best practices to ensure successful software delivery.
• Some projects will require unusual working hours including late nights and weekends in order to ensure business continuity and reliable working software.
• Some projects will require "crunch" efforts of unusual extra hours in order to meet business needs with the complexity of software development.
• Hybrid Schedule: 3 days remote / 2 days in office
• 30-day notification period preferred
Education and Experience requirements:• Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other
• 2+ years leading software engineers or in leadership role
• 5+ years hands-on engineering experience
• Extensive knowledge of systems architecture for web-based systems.
• Experience with service-oriented design including common patterns, interfaces, and inheritance
• Considerable experience and aptitude in the creation of enterprise business software.
• Ability to quickly learn new concepts, technologies and business processes.
• Ability to apply a rich variety of software engineering principles, theories, algorithms and concepts.
• Ability to stay focused and detail-oriented in a fast-paced dynamic environment, and coach others to do the same.
• Current knowledge of cloud technologies
