Job Overview:

As an Engineering Manager of a software engineering group, you will apply your knowledge of management, software development methodologies, best practices, and proven processes to deliver a quality software product on budget, within planned schedule with superb quality.

This specific position will provide execution leadership and people management of a set of software teams, focused on TCOS (Train Control Office System) related new product development as part of Network Optimization group in Wabtec Digital Electronics. Responsibilities of the engineering manager will span products including but not limited to \xe2\x80\x93 WebVC, WebSMC, BOS and MDM.

TCOS is an integrated dispatch control solution that brings together multiple dispatching functions for Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), Track Warrant Control (TWC), Dark Territory (DT), and Positive Train Control (PTC) into one system for efficient train management.

The software teams will consist of both permanent employees and contractors based out of India.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

• Demonstrate very strong technical leadership and people management skills including solid communication and analytical skills with thorough understanding of product development and successful problem definition, decomposition, estimation and resolution
• Responsible for building a world class software development team to support the system integration of the platform
• Deliver application and services to validate and ensure the platform meets all operational standards
• Influence decision making through active partnership with cross-functional teams
• Manage strategic business partnerships and relationships through Technical, Financial, Contractual and Relationship Management

• Coach, mentor and lead a diverse group of lean/agile software engineers
• Work with product owners across the project to understand market needs & vision; quickly translate that vision into demonstrable software
• Work with product owners and architects to develop software development plans
• Work directly with customers to understand business and technical needs
• Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
• Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities
• Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables
• Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
• Keep project data relating to tracking and financials current
• Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities
• Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team
• Communicate effectively both within immediate team and Wabtec leadership. Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results
• Build a world class software development team to consistently deliver complex software platforms and research projects of varying size and duration.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelors/Masters Degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent with expertise in programming languages like C#, .NET framework, Java, UI development using WPF, Angular or equivalent, modern application architecture and design principles & Microservices on Cloud and related Cloud technologies. Additional experience with Java/J2EE, SOA, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Java Script & HTML 5 will be a plus.
• Has prior experience of building desktop and/or web based applications.
• 14+ years of overall software engineering design and development experience.
• 3+ years of experience leading large projects and teams.
• Experience in software management through at least 2+ complete product life-cycles.
• Experience in delivering high quality software outputs with comprehensive understanding of Agile software development principles.
• Proven experience working with global development teams and building close working relationships to drive and nurture positive relations with other make centers.
• Strong influencing skills, communication skills and demonstrated analytical skills.

Desired Characteristics

Technical Expertise:

• Thorough knwolegde of Software Development Life Cycle principles
• Through working knowledge of CI/CD concepts and best practices
• Hands on experience using databases and related technologies like Java/J2EE, Hibernate, Angular based UI development in a fast-paced business environment with large-scale and complex datasets
• Good understanding of native Cloud Technologies and containers.
• Strong demonstrated understanding of customer milestone and delivery lifecycle required. Understanding of driving complex application with knowledge on UI and backend technologies is required. Also, demonstrable experience in working and managing across NPI, sustenance and new product development is needed for this role.
