Subject Matter Expert Linux/Unix System - Acting as a subject matter expert for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and compatible systems in Cloud and Virtualized environments. Responsible for the maintenance and administration of a high availability environment as well as providing leadership in transitioning technical operations from traditional administration and deployment management to infrastructure as application leveraging automation/configuration management technologies. Consult with the internal team and end-users to determine system requirements and specifications.
Areas Of Responsibility
Linux/UNIX (Red Hat/CentOS/SuSE,etc.) Subject Matter Expert with at least 10 years of multi-vendor UNIX engineering, implementation, and administration. Daily maintenance/administration of multiple Unix systems.
Responsible for OS patch management, should have hands-on experience on BigFix patch management tool.
Strong background in Linux/Unix administration and understanding of code and script (PHP, Python, Perl and/or Ruby)
Installation, set up, configuration and maintenance of Java Application Servers, Apache Web Servers, and Database Servers. Configuration and maintenance of the monitoring system.
Explore and integrate new technologies, transitioning operations from traditional administration and deployment to infrastructure as application leveraging automation/configuration management technologies.
Prepare for new product related releases and assists with new initiatives and upgrades.
Designs technology environments to proper standards with associated documentation and processes and aligned to business requirements. This includes leading and managing projects in adherence with the PMO framework, participating in vendor management, creating/maintaining documentation, and helping to create standards and documentation. Familiar with LDAP, Kerberos
Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Coordinates with management to formulate highly complex technical solutions and keeps up to date on technical support products.
Provides technical solutions and escalated support for non-routine, highly complex technical issues.
Evaluates products and upgrades for appropriateness of cost and compatibility. Oversees and implements system upgrade strategies.
Develops strategies to manage the frequency of appropriate support package/patch application. Monitors system maintenance and provides appropriate recommendations, when required.
Researches current systems technology and serves as subject matter expert on complex systems, processes and procedures.
Works closely with team members on testing, upgrades and configuration of system and services. Evaluates and ensures changes are in accordance with appropriate operating procedures; recommends revisions or changes based upon results.
Updating and maintenance of Availability, Capacity management Risk Analysis and providing the mitigation plan Continual Service Improvement Planning and executions Planning and execution of DR Drills based on availability of DR setup and recovery procedures (Applicable if the DR is in scope)
Preparing, maintaining and updating of SOP and KBase
Maintaining and updating of Infra AS IS / Infra Documents
Acts as a mentor to other engineers, as assigned.
Ideal certifications desired:
Certified Linux administrator, Red Hat Certified System Administrator and Red Hat Certified Engineer.
Very strong knowledge of Redhat Linux.
