Job Purpose:



The Manager -Industrial Design will lead the product development process by translating business requirements/ product specifications into engineering models which are aesthetically appealing and in line with the RE brand. The incumbent will liaise with key stakeholders to ensure that product specifications are captured in the design process. He/ she will lead the development of design instructions, drawings and training materials for products. The Team Manager -Industrial Design will be influential in all stages of the development of new motorcycles, from research and concept creation in 2D through to 3D surface development and supporting the Engineering team into production.



Key Responsibilities:



• Provide Industrial Design support to Product Development in order to preserve Design intent through the development process by preparing engineering drawings and prototypes
• Devise innovative and exciting Industrial Design proposals in response to Product strategy requirement
• Propose creative solutions whilst adhering to brand strategy, packaging, ergonomic and timing constraints
• Conceptualize and provide Industrial Design support to achieve Product Strategy vision for future line-up models as described in the SBP
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and create an ideation sketch by working with the product strategy team
• Communicate proposals visually through sketches & 3D models and collaborate with other teams to ensure your design intent is followed through, both in the vehicle production as well as in supporting on-bike accessory creation
• Support Concept Engineering, Post ICE Whole Vehicle Concept Model Design, Custom and Concept projects as necessary
• Manage ID Studio styling, modelling and CAS activities and provide additional support to all studio activities
• Oversee the testing of prototypes to understand functionality and reliability
• Provide data and oversee development of the Design intent hard model and ensure sign-off
• Troubleshoot and identify areas of improvement thereby driving continuous improvement
• Assist with building the Industrial design capability for RE by recommending procurement of design infrastructure, hardware and software
• Manage a small design team to deliver all the Industrial design outputs across all the three areas of Conceptualization, Visualization and Realization in relation to specific projects
• Drive employee engagement by leading people development via succession planning, training and development, regular feedback/ follow-up and reward programs etc.
• Keep abreast of latest trends in Industrial Design focusing on energy efficient design, IoT enablement, upgradation from CAD to cloud-based product design, Computer aided engineering (CAE) and advanced tools in the design process
• Ensure all products adhere to regulatory frameworks and meet safety and compliance standards




Work Experience





Education:



• Bachelor's or Master's' degree in Transportation or Industrial Design



Experience:



• 10+ years' experience in an Automotive OEM or Independent Studio working with OEMs
• Extensive Motorcycle design experience
• experience in seeing Powered Two-Wheeler projects through to production
• Strong sketching/ rendering skills, proficient in Photoshop
• 3D skills in Alias and/ or Rhino3D
• Working knowledge of rendering software (Keyshot, VRED)
• A passion for motorcycles and familiarity with the global motorcycle market
• Excellent team working ethic and an enthusiasm for cross-cultural experiences
• Willingness to travel and work abroad
• Experience in design and development of products
• Experience in the automotive industry
