Job Description

Summary The Steam Power Service (SPS) within Power Service Region India footprint is responsible for growth of Market Share (SAS), backlog & profitability in aftersales market of Steam Plants.

The SPS-Geno portfolio within SPPS is in charge of strategy definition, implementation and business results for various generator platforms covering both OEM & several oOEM fleets in Region India.

The Lead Technical Field Advisor, is a key role in the SPPS Team where you will have significant opportunity to demonstrate your strategic, creative problem-solving, technical, communication and process skills in a complex, global and fast-paced environment.

Candidate will be required to support successful execution of the SPS-Geno project assigned to him as well as other team members. He/she will have to work with cross-functional resources/teams to deliver results, lead long-term planning for the successful site execution of the project, manage complex issues including dimensional measurement of the parts & developing hand sketch to support Engineering Function.

Candidate will report to the SPS-Geno Field Service Head within SPPS in Region India based out of Kolkata/Delhi/Chennai/Mumbai/Nagpur.



Responsible for Field services of Excitation & Generator Protection (GCP) System of Turbo-Generator for different fuel-based power plants in India region.

Essential Responsibilities

Work Closely with the Engineering & Field Service Manager & Project Managers to deliver projects & execute site services as per schedule & customer satisfaction.

Peform EXCITATION & GCP Field Services across projects for India/APAC region.

Lead technical discussion with customers and vendors.

Commissioning & field service capabilities for excitation & GCP system for low to high rating generators for different type of plants e.g. Hydro, Steam, Gas etc.

Commissioning of Electrical & Excitation Transformers

Third party communication e.g. MODBUS, IEC 101/104, IEC 61850 etc.

Able to understand the Power System Stabilizer study (PSS) & Grid code requirements design & perform commissioning as per country specific needs.

Perform site commissioning, maintenance, Annual maintenance & shutdown activity across project sites

Solve the customer problems & make the system operational as per customer need.

Ability to perform the system diagnostic in running plant & fix them.

Ability to troubleshoot & fix the issues that could be due to hardware, software or network faults

Perform the site maintenance activities in stipulated & time bound plant shut down or during running plant as per need.

Perform site interventions with good & fair customer feedback including timely submission of detailed site report & time sheet.

Identify and communicate technical risk during project execution & site interventions.

Willing to travel very frequently to serve customer & always available including outside India.

Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

Minimum of 5 years of experience with Electrical system design & commissioning.

Minimum 2 years of experience in commissioning of Generator Excitation (AVR) & Protection (GCP) system.

Experience in ALSPA / CONTROGEN & EX2100e Based AVR / Excitation Systems.

Design experience and working knowledge of AVR / Excitation Systems, Power Thyristor Converters and Automation and Control.

Good analytic and problem-solving skills.

Good communication skills to serve customers in India/APAC region.

Desired Characteristics

Knowledge of different electrical standards for designing the excitation system & elsewise.

Knowledge of engineering tools e.g. AutoCAD, E3 for electrical design, Inventor for Mechanical design.

Demonstrated effective problem-solving capabilities

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and across various teams

Self-starter, energizing, results-oriented, and able to multi-task; tenacious and organized

Design capabilities for excitation & GCP system for low to high rating generators for different type of plants e.g. Hydro, Steam, Gas etc.

Project engineering & testing (including FAT with customers) capabilities for Excitation & GCP including cabinet/hardware design, Power electronic components, Excitation Transformer with KPIs across projects including design reviews, on time delivery, in budget execution etc.
