The IZOT product line includes BMC's Intelligent Z Optimization & Transformation products, which help the world's largest companies to monitor and manage their mainframe systems. You will be working as a member of the Mainframe Technical Services infrastructure support team. Our mission is to provide the IBM system Z infrastructure (hardware and software) required by the zSolutions business unit of R&D organization. You will work in conjunction with the Mainframe Technical Services team members and various zSolutions teams to define, configure, install, modify and deploy the appropriate z/OS, z/VM and Linux on SystemZ hardware and software products to be used for their product development and testing. In addition, you will be responsible for installing the software service, e.g., IBM RSU & PUT, provided by the manufacturers.
Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:
• Experience: 7 or more years' experience as a zOS systems programmer with knowledge of a current zSeries operating systems (z/OS, z/VM), its components, and zSeries hardware.
• A minimum of five years of systems support background, including a strong working knowledge of SMP/E and applying IBM software service.
•
Other qualifications:
• Expert knowledge of and proficiency with IBM products and utilities; prefer experience with BMC utilities.
• Thorough problem-solving skills, a demonstrated ability to work issues to resolution, and independent work habits are necessary requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous tasks.
• Ability to remain calm, cordial, and effective during the resolution of time critical system interruptions/difficulties/failures.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency with z/OS systems administration, including USS, HCD, Sysplex, GRS, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, JES2/JES3, JCL, SMF, SMP/E, and ISV Program Products.
• Performance and capacity planning (MXG, SAS coding) a plus
• zOS Networking (TCP/IP, VTAM) a plus.
To ensure you're set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:
• Install, test, implement, maintain, enhance, interface and support IBM operating systems, its subsystems, and infrastructure applications and/or associated facilities.
• Provisioning z/OS, z/VM and zLinux LPARs or virtual systems.
• Ongoing maintenance and support including review of vendor-supplied maintenance materials, for example IBM RSU & PUT, to insure installation of recommended levels of software/firmware service.
• Assist team with hardware technology selection and configuration.
• Insure interoperability of operating system and programs products from IBM and/or ISV's.
• Perform problem analysis and work with IBM to resolve problems on all supported subsystems.
• Communicate effectively with R&D users and management at all levels.
• Work with members of the Mainframe Technical Services support group to test operating system and program products to insure compatibility with vendor-supplied changes.
• Participate in vendor early ship/early support programs as needed.
• Participate in BMC beta/early ship/early support programs whenever possible and feasible.
• Implement new hardware and software technologies as required.
• Develops documentation and provides knowledge transfer to peers.
• Participating in project teams as subject matter expert, relating to the support of existing technologies and the selection and implementation of new technologies.
• Demonstrate teamwork support by expressing a collaborative attitude and sharing technical know-how.
• Support BMC disaster recovery/business continuity programs as directed.
