About the Program: The Data Lab is WRI\'s core data innovation and delivery unit. We are a team of over 35 engineers, product managers and data scientists with experience setting data strategy, doing quantitative research, and building data tools and products. Our mission is to use advances in data and technology to help our community improve lives, protect nature, and ensure just transitions. The Data Lab is a part of the office of Research, Data & Innovation (RDI), a core function within WRI. The Research, Data and Innovation office promotes excellence, alignment and impact through WRI\'s research and data products. We accomplish this through seven primary avenues: publication product review and quality control, staff mentoring, training and development, strategic planning/large proposal review, strong monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks, promoting synergies and innovation, and advancing data for impact through the Data Lab. Job Highlight: As Lead of the Data Lab Global Network, you will manage the Data Lab\'s work with WRI\'s network of International Offices (IOs) around the world. In your first year, you will partner with IOs to design and build data teams that are (1) fit for each IOs\' unique purpose and (2) connected with the Data Lab\'s core infrastructure and offerings. This work will involve deep collaboration with programmatic and operational leaders in our IOs to ensure that embedded teams deliver the support they to scale up data for impact strategies within their country or region. As the Data Lab Global Network moves from startup-mode to steady-state, the Lead will shift that work to become the Data Lab\'s ambassador and primary liaison for established IO data teams. The Lead will be responsible for ensuring that the Data Lab\'s offerings meet the needs of WRI\'s IOs, managing projects that cut across more than one IO, and solving cross-cutting policy and staffing questions. You will be supported by a small but growing team of data scientists, strategists, and product specialists from across WRI\'s IOs and core Data Lab. You will report to the Global Director of the Data Lab with significant input from WRI\'s regional and country leaders. What will you do: Design and Launch New International Office (IO) Data Teams (50% time) : Design a strategy to scale the Data Lab\'s Global Network, taking into account WRI\'s 5-year strategy, the Data Lab\'s offerings, and the needs of specific IOs Launch data teams in multiple IOs in close collaboration with the leadership of those offices Contribute to the design and management of new data infrastructure intended to serve researchers and products teams Establish framework for assessing the impact of the IO Data Teams in-line with organization and funder guidelines Contribute significantly to fundraising for WRI data for impact world globally Manage Support for Existing IO Data Teams (30% time): Supervise the design, development, and management of new products from IOs ranging from simple dashboards to full-featured data products Work with the Operations Manager for Research, Data & Innovation (RDI) to secure and manage resources for the scoping, selection, and delivery of data science support for IOs Serve as interim manager for a range of technical staff including data scientists, engineers, and product specialists until full team structures are solidified Global Data Partnerships and Policy (20% time): Cultivate and manage relationships with local and regional data partners including research institutions, companies, and peer non-profits to support delivery and impact Fundraise to scale the Data Lab Global Network in partnership with the Global Director of the Data Lab and WRI\'s Development Team Lead Data Lab engagement on global data and technology policy issues including privacy, data protection, and emerging technologies What will you need: Education: You have a completed Master\'s degree in a relevant discipline Experience: You have a minimum of 10+ years of full-time relevant work experience including experience designing and leading technical functions and teams Past experience designing, building, and managing technical teams in matrixed, global environments Experience leading both technical product and project management initiatives Fluency in complex change management in matrixed, global organizations Deep understanding of using data and technology for impact Extensive experience managing teams and individuals through periods of rapid organizational grow and change Languages: You have verbal and written proficiency in English required and additional capability in a language spoken in WRI Offices encouraged (e.g. Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese) Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based.
