Position Overview This is an exciting opportunity to join MSCI as a Vice President, Data engineer, to play a leading role in designing, architecting, and implementing world class ground up new data engineering platform for commercial Real Assets based on modern technology stack – Databricks (Delta Lake & Spark), Snowflake, Dremio, Azure Datalake. The primary functions of this role involve leading strategic projects and positively influencing relevant stakeholders to improve architectural processes and guidelines. The Data engineer will be part of central architecture team and work collaboratively with our RCA product development teams within the Real Assets business at MSCI. This is a highly technical role, and a successful candidate will have both the requisite technical skills and the ability to partner successfully with both technical and non-technical employees across the firm. Your key responsibilities

• Part of Data architecture function for the RCA and Datscha products engineering team.
• Directly do hands-on development of a solutions in partnership with product engineering teams.
• Continuously partner with 1 MSCI platform engineering and other product engineering teams to promote reuse of 1 MSCI components, infrastructure, platform and services.
• Influence design practices with engineering team.
• Constantly evaluate cost efficiencies that can be derived through reduction of technical debt, reduction of compute and storage cost and present to engineering and business leadership

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

• 10+ years of hands-on and leadership experience with critical architecture and design decisions for complex business problem domains.
• Experience interfacing with business stakeholders, functional leads, functional architects and with other horizontal stakeholders
• Deep knowledge and hands on experience with enterprise architecture and design patterns.
• Deep knowledge of several programming languages (SQL, Java, Python, .Net, etc.) both higher level and lower level in areas of language constructs and memory management.
• Deep knowledge of database systems based on SQL and non-SQL and several years of SQL coding experience.
• Hands-on experience developing cloud native applications on Azure or AWS or GCP.
• Deep knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Hands on programing and design experience with distributed cloud computing including serverless compute, containerization, data pipelines, PaaS, IaC and IaaS paradigms.
• Deep hands on experience with Agile and DevOps software development practices
• Able to communicate architecture & design decisions, syndicate and influence within software teams, technical leaders in the firm and business stakeholders.
• Proven ability to continuously learn and seek out new technology, developing strategic ideas of how they can solve business problems and pro-actively design plans of adoption and implementation
• Financial domain & front-to-back investment process knowledge is huge plus.
• Bachelors’ degree in computer science or science or math or engineering area of study is preferred not mandatory.
• Technical skills – JavaScript related technologies – SQL, Python, SQL and non-SQL Databases, Kafka, AWS and/or Azure Cloud, modern cloud data platforms including DataBricks and Snowflake a plus as long.
