Key Responsibilities
• Sample Collection and Preparation
• Collect, label, and process biological specimens (e.g., sputum, blood) following strict safety protocols.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of patient samples to maintain sample integrity.
• Equipment and Supplies Management
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, centrifuges etc.).
• Ensure regular inventory of laboratory supplies and timely procurement to avoid shortages.
• Data Collection and Reporting
• Record and analyze test results accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain laboratory logs, patient reports, and ensure data confidentiality.
• Report laboratory findings to clinical and project teams for patient management.
• Quality Control and Safety
• Adhere to biosafety protocols to minimize infection risks (e.g., use of PPE, waste disposal).
• Participate in internal and external quality assurance (QA) programs for TB testing.
• Ensure the laboratory complies with health and safety regulations.
• Coordination and Support
• Collaborate with medical and field teams for effective sample collection and diagnosis.
• Provide support for project-related research and surveys as required.
• Participate in regular team meetings and capacity-building activities.
Required Qualifications
• Education :
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or equivalent.
• Certification from an accredited institution will be preferred.
• Experience :
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a diagnostic laboratory, ideally with TB diagnostics.
• Experience in TB cultures is highly desirable.
• Skills :
• Strong knowledge of laboratory protocols and biosafety practices.
• Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment (e.g.microscopes).
• Good organizational and data management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
• Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office, data entry tools).
Desirable Qualities
• Experience in working on public health or donor-funded TB projects.
• Knowledge of drug-resistant TB diagnostics and management.
• Commitment to quality laboratory standards and patient-centered care.
Work Environment
• Laboratory setting with exposure to biological specimens.
• Field visits may be required depending on the project scope.
• Adherence to strict infection prevention and control measures.
