: Lab Manager - Pathology

Overview: As a Lab Manager in the Pathology department of our hospital, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the operations and administration of the pathology laboratory. You will ensure efficient workflow, adherence to quality standards, and effective management of laboratory personnel. Your expertise will contribute to accurate diagnostic testing and support optimal patient care within our healthcare facility.

Responsibilities:

• Operational Management:
• Supervise daily operations of the pathology laboratory, including specimen processing, testing, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA, CAP, HIPAA).
• Quality Assurance:
• Implement quality control measures to maintain accuracy and precision in diagnostic testing.
• Monitor proficiency testing and ensure timely participation and compliance.
• Staff Management:
• Manage laboratory staff, including pathologists, medical technologists, and technicians.
• Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all laboratory activities.
• Inventory and Equipment Management:
• Oversee inventory of supplies and reagents, ensuring adequate stock levels.
• Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Data Management:
• Manage laboratory information systems (LIS) and ensure accurate recording and reporting of test results.
• Ensure confidentiality and integrity of patient information and laboratory data.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Liaise with other departments, clinicians, and hospital administration to coordinate laboratory services and address issues as they arise.
• Provide regular updates and reports to hospital management on laboratory operations and performance.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to enhance efficiency and quality of services.
• Stay current with advances in pathology and laboratory medicine to incorporate best practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Pathology, or related field (BMLT/DMLT)
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent.
• Must have worked in ISO Certified Lab (if laboratory)
• Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a pathology laboratory.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, quality control, and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage resources effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

• This position typically operates within a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
• May require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call hours to ensure continuous laboratory operations.
• Must adhere to strict safety protocols and procedures to minimize exposure to infectious agents and hazardous materials.
