A Junior Embryologist works within a clinical embryology lab, assisting in the preparation, handling, and processing of gametes (sperm and eggs) and embryos. They support senior embryologists in carrying out laboratory procedures required for assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Procedures:
Assist in preparing culture media and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Handle and process gametes (sperm and oocytes) under the guidance of senior embryologists.
Observe and assist with insemination procedures, including IVF and ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).
Support embryo assessments, including grading and documentation.
2. Embryo Handling:
Assist in freezing (cryopreservation) and thawing of gametes and embryos.
Assist with embryo transfer preparation under supervision.
3. Laboratory Maintenance:
Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of lab equipment.
Monitor and document laboratory conditions (temperature, humidity, and pH levels).
4. Quality Control & Documentation:
Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality standards.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all procedures performed .
5. Patient Care and Communication:
Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure seamless patient care.
Explain laboratory processes to patients as needed under supervision.
