A kitchen or service department trainee's responsibilities may include:
• Food preparation Preparing meals, ensuring food is of high quality, and assisting with the preparation of major meals
• Kitchen maintenance Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, and ensuring the kitchen is clean and tidy
• Food storage Ensuring food is stored and disposed of correctly, and monitoring the temperature of fridges, freezers, and hot cabinets
• Record keeping Maintaining accurate records as directed by the chef
• Assisting with service Assisting with dishing, serving, and cleaning work areas and utensils
• Helping with other tasks Assisting with other tasks as assigned by the chef, such as collecting items from the main kitchen
• Ensuring cleanliness Ensuring the kitchen is clean and safe, and that all kitchen sanitation standards are met
• Communicating Communicating with management, chefs, and service staff to address any issues or needs
• Following procedures Following all company, division, and department procedures and policies, as well as all health and safety regulations
