We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Consultant Specialist.

In this role, you will:

• The role as Production Services Tooling Specialist is two-fold. Firstly you will be responsible for using our suite of monitoring tools to aggregate events, incidents and other service metrics in real time. Secondly, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be an SME in observability and monitoring with an engineering mindset to assist our DevOps community across ET with their goal of MTTR reduction through quicker MTTI. You will contribute to the design, implementation and maintenance of a department-wide IT monitoring strategy including selecting the appropriate tools and patterns, establishing relevant KPIs to measure success.
• Help to drive convergence of the working practices, tools and metrics across all areas of Enterprise Technology.
• Working closely with other engineers on the implementation of observability and automation initiatives for ET\xe2\x80\x99s strategic services.
• Identifying and removing toil from our operational functions.
• Develop and enforce monitoring standards
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify critical systems, services and performance metrics to monitor, and help to implement appropriate monitoring solutions.
• Configure and fine-tune monitoring tools to capture relevant metrics, alerts and events and establish thresholds for proactive issue identification and resolution.
• Provide technical solutions to visualisation requests from other team members
• Working with DevOps enabled cross-functional teams to assess monitoring capability in line with TRMF
• Contribute to the Vision 27 Available Business Services workstream.Be the department lead for the Incident identification control (INCM.2)
• Own a backlog of Tooling/Observability tasks and report on progress.Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in Observability/Monitoring and recommend innovative approaches to address problem areas

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

• Be fluent in written and spoken English and be comfortable working in a multi-cultural and diverse organisation with team members across the globe
• Possess advanced programming experience in at least one of the following languages: Python, Java, Go, Ruby, Bash scripting and be prepared to demonstrate your experience.
• Have a strong background in the setup, use, and optimisation of a variety of observability tools including Splunk, DataDog, AppDynamics, and AWS Cloudwatch, Google\xe2\x80\x99s Operations Suite (ex-Stackdriver)
• Be able to debug and optimise code, while automating routine tasks (i.e., TOIL reduction)
• Value effective and continual communications, honesty, transparency, and accountability
• Possess fundamentals and evidence-based problem solving skills; Drive decision-making by function, first principles-based mind-set.
• Demonstrate a bias-to-action and avoid analysis-paralysis, maintain a sense of ownership as you drive actions to the finish line with high quality and on time
• Be ego-less when searching for the best ideas and contribute effectively outside of your specialty; You think about solving problems from the standpoint of best outcome for the team
• Have strong fundamental knowledge in distributed systems and networking
• Understand the concepts of quantifying failure and availability in a prescriptive manner using SLOs, SLIs, and Error Budgets
• Have good working experience of Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow etc.
