Job Description

An interior designer's job is to create attractive and practical spaces that meet the needs of the client and the users of the space. They work with clients to understand their goals and requirements, and then use their creativity to design spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Here are some of the responsibilities of an interior designer:

• Project management Work with clients to define project goals, and then manage the project from start to finish
• Design Create preliminary sketches, and then detailed 2D and 3D plans for the space
• Materials and furnishings Select materials and furnishings for the space, such as lighting, furniture, and flooring
• Budgeting Estimate project costs and determine budgets that match the project requirements
• Construction Oversee construction and coordinate with contractors to ensure that the design is implemented
• Client satisfaction Visit the site after the project is complete to ensure that the client is happy
• Compliance Ensure that the design complies with building plans and inspection rules

Interior designers can work in a variety of settings, including hotels, resorts, cafes, entertainment venues, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and public spaces. Some skills that are useful for interior designers include: Strong problem-solving and organizational skills, Effective verbal and written communication skills, Attention to detail, Self-starter, and Knowledge of building and accessible codes.
