An Instructional Designer, or Instructional Developer, is responsible for using computer software and other technologies to streamline education courses for students and professionals. Their duties include consulting with subject experts to determine the efficiency of their course designs, transferring courses into online formats and creating course manuals for Teachers or professionals to use .
Responsibilities:
• Develops or updates courses, instructional materials, and other digital instructional information consistent with adult learning theory for delivery in online learning, hybrid courses, and face-to-face courses. Confirms course objectives are current and reflected in newly developed courses.
• Assists subject matter experts in defining course outcomes and objectives. Designs and develops engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound materials that address various learning styles and are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities.
• Designs and produces learning materials in a variety of formats, including print, graphics, audio, video, animation, and multimedia, to support teaching, learning, and college initiatives.
• Collaborates with subject matter experts, team members, web developers, media specialists, digital media and producers to solve technological and institutional challenges. Serves as a project manager.
• Utilizes digital tools for project management. Manages the Learning Management System to ensure quality of course development, tools, test accessibility, and compliance.
• Trains and supports faculty in the use of course management system.
• Learns new technologies and applications to assist course design.
Requirements:
• Knowledge of instructional theory, including assessment
• Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS)
• Understanding of web site design best practices
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Experience with design platforms, such as InDesign
• Familiarity with course management systems, such as Blackboard
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical colleagues and clients.
