Position Summary:
The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and monitoring infection prevention and control practices across the healthcare facility. This role involves the development and enforcement of infection control protocols, educating staff, and ensuring adherence to local, state, and national infection control standards to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
Key Responsibilities:
• Surveillance and Reporting:
• Conduct regular surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) within the facility.
• Identify trends and outbreaks in infection rates and report findings to relevant departments, including leadership and clinical teams.
• Document and track infection control data, generating reports as required by state, federal, or accreditation agencies.
• Policy Development and Implementation:
• Develop, update, and implement infection prevention and control policies and procedures to meet current standards and regulations.
• Ensure that all infection control protocols are aligned with CDC, WHO, and local health department guidelines.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to address specific infection control concerns.
• Staff Education and Training:
• Provide regular training sessions for healthcare staff on infection control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE (personal protective equipment) use, sterilization, and isolation protocols.
• Offer ongoing education on new infection control guidelines, emerging pathogens, and best practices.
• Assist in the onboarding process for new employees with infection control training.
• Infection Prevention:
• Monitor the effectiveness of infection prevention measures in all departments (e.g., isolation procedures, patient care, and environmental cleaning).
• Conduct environmental rounds to ensure compliance with infection prevention practices in clinical and non-clinical areas.
• Advise on appropriate isolation techniques and precautions for patients with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases.
• Outbreak Management:
• Lead and coordinate infection control efforts during outbreaks (e.g., flu, COVID-19, MRSA).
• Implement outbreak management protocols, including isolation procedures, patient cohorting, and staff notification.
• Participate in contact tracing and other epidemiological investigations as needed.
• Compliance and Accreditation:
• Ensure that infection control practices comply with regulatory agencies, such as OSHA, CDC, The Joint Commission (TJC), and others.
• Assist with internal and external infection control audits, inspections, and surveys.
• Prepare and submit infection control data for performance improvement and regulatory requirements.
• Research and Continuous Improvement:
• Participate in infection control research and quality improvement projects.
• Stay current on trends, evidence-based practices, and advancements in infection prevention and control.
• Recommend improvements to infection control practices based on current research and data analysis.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Registered Nurse (RN) with a current license in the state of employment.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required or obtained within 2 years of hire.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in infection control, epidemiology, or public health.
• Experience working in a healthcare setting (hospital, long-term care facility, outpatient clinics, etc.) is preferred.
• Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong knowledge of infection control principles and practices, including isolation techniques, sterilization, and disinfection.
• Familiarity with infection surveillance software and data analysis tools.
• Ability to assess and interpret infection control data.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for training and reporting.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly to outbreaks and emerging infections.
• Ability to collaborate and educate healthcare staff at all levels.
• Certifications:
• Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred or within two years of employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Pay: ?12,000.00 - ?25,000.00 per month
