• Developing and implementing protocols : ICNs develop and implement infection control protocols and monitor compliance with hygiene practices.
• Educating : ICNs educate healthcare staff and patients on infection prevention measures.
• Responding to outbreaks : ICNs respond to outbreaks and potential threats.
• Collaborating : ICNs collaborate with government agencies and other professionals.
• Studying pathogens : ICNs study pathogens and assist with treatments and vaccines.
• Recording and reporting : ICNs record patients' medical information and vital signs, monitor and record symptoms, and maintain accurate reports.
ICNs need to have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. To become an ICN, you typically need:
• A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
• At least one year of basic nursing experience
