• Developing and implementing protocols : ICNs create and put into practice infection control protocols.
• Monitoring compliance : They monitor compliance with hygiene practices.
• Educating : ICNs educate healthcare staff and patients on infection prevention measures.
• Checking sterilization and disinfection : ICNs check sterilization and disinfection practices, and test disinfectants in use.
• Monitoring infections : They monitor infections based on culture positivity to identify the organisms causing infections.
• Surveilling infections : ICNs continuously monitor infections to detect outbreaks early.
• Surveilling community outbreaks : They monitor community outbreaks like dengue, meningitis, diphtheria, and meningococcemia to prevent spread within the hospital.
• Providing care for staff : ICNs provide care for staff who are ill or have been exposed to something work-related.
• Training staff : ICNs provide continuous training and education to newly recruited staff.
• Identifying risks : ICNs identify work-related infection risks and institute preventive measures.
