:What You\'ll DoThis is an Indirect Tax Research profile for AvaTax VAT CalculationWe are looking for an individual with proven expertise in research on International VAT calculation. The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with strong academic credentials & relevant domain experience.We are looking for a dynamic, energetic, team-oriented individual who has demonstrated adaptability to change through periods of rapid growth. The role involves problem-solving and analyzing complex legal VAT/GST updates.In this role, the candidate should be able to analyze and interpret tax laws, reporting guidelines, understand the changes and be able to summarize and/or expand the information reported upon request.The candidate will be expected to conduct an end to end "impact analysis" of an VAT/GST legislative changes timely to integrate those laws into the Avalara products.This is your opportunity to join a highly productive indirect tax research team at a fast-growing Software as a Service (SaaS) company doing what you may be very passionate about. With us, you should be ready to deep dive into stimulating indirect tax research projects to make a signifacant impact.In order to acquire/maintain the most current/accurate/timely indirect tax information, the candidate must perform extensive research. Given the dynamic nature of indirect tax laws trends, a commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on developments is necessary to remain effective in this role.

  • Research VAT/GST law, reporting, and remittance requirements to keep our tax products in compliance with tax laws in all territories required.
  • Maintain existing taxability rules for assigned jurisdictions by monitoring tax law changes
  • Recommend and contribute to research projects that expand existing content based on market/environmental/legislative changes
  • Monitor VAT/GST legislation, administrative decisions, and judicial decisions for changes
  • Based upon tax research, validate results of test transactions pre-production
  • Build productive working relationships with government taxing authorities and/or legislative research units to maximize the quality of our product
  • Collaborate with content research, product management and engineering to implement our solutions
What You\'ll Need to be SuccessfulRequired Qualifications
  • A natural curiosity about technology and an interest in innovation and learning about new areas of transaction taxes
  • Relevant degree (LLB or LLM)
  • 3+ years experience in VAT/GST/indirect tax, research, consulting, or audit and accounting experience
  • Excellent research skills, including a logical and creative approach to drilling down to specific data to surface information that is vital to the accuracy of the published content
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work in and support a team environment through collective team topics, load balancing, and sharing/receiving constructive feedback
  • Ability to multi-task, troubleshoot, and problem solve in a calm, analytical and methodical manner that also demonstrates a sense of urgency
  • Proactively participate in a dynamic and innovative tax environment by maintaining a high level of energy while being consistently dependable, efficient, and accurate
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time to achieve priority results
  • Ability to maintain organization and attention to detail
  • Analytic ability at a level sufficient to understand and resolve client requests and tax concerns
  • Ability to apply mathematical calculations, percentages, and general accounting rules
  • Ability to learn and adapt to different software applications and tools
  • Ability to work with large data sets in Excel
  • Demonstrated high standards of excellence in work product and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced tax certifications/ tax technology certificates
  • Strong proficiency in tax technology tools, ERP systems, tax automation platforms & data analytics tools.
  • Experience in working/ leading projects with tax compliance, tax planning, tax audits, and tax reporting is also valuable.
  • Experience with Agile or other project management methodologies is advantageous.
  • Fluency in languages other than English
  • Familiarity with JIRA
