Position: Indian/Chinese Chef
Location: Viva La Tazza (UDMRI), Dehradun

Reports To: Head Chef/Restaurant Manager
Key Responsibilities:
• Preparation & Cooking:
• Prepare and cook Indian and Chinese dishes such as curries, stir-fries, noodles, rice dishes, tandoori items, soups, and snacks.
• Ensure all dishes are cooked to the highest standard of taste, presentation, and hygiene.
• Adapt recipes as needed to meet customer preferences or dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free).
• Menu Development:
• Collaborate with the Head Chef and cafe management to create and update the menu with innovative Indian and Chinese dishes.
• Experiment with seasonal ingredients to offer fresh and unique dishes to customers.
• Ensure dishes are balanced, and flavor profiles are authentic and consistent.
• Quality Control:
• Maintain the quality and consistency of food in terms of flavor, texture, and appearance.
• Ensure all food items are prepared promptly and meet customer expectations.
• Regularly review and adjust portion sizes, garnishing, and presentation standards.
• Kitchen Management:
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, ensuring smooth workflow during peak hours.
• Ensure kitchen cleanliness and hygiene standards are adhered to, including the proper storage of ingredients.
• Manage inventory, ensure stock levels are maintained, and minimize food wastage.
• Assist with ordering and organizing ingredients and supplies as needed.
• Team Collaboration:
• Work closely with other kitchen staff, including sous chefs, line cooks, and assistants, to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
• Provide guidance and training to junior kitchen staff, helping them improve their skills and knowledge.
• Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and customer satisfaction.
• Customer Satisfaction:
• Take customer feedback into account and make adjustments to improve food quality and offerings.
• Occasionally interact with customers to understand their preferences and special dietary needs.
Requirements:
• Proven Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience as an Indian and/or Chinese chef in a commercial kitchen environment.
• Skills & Knowledge:
• In-depth knowledge of Indian and Chinese culinary techniques, ingredients, and traditional cooking methods.
• Ability to prepare a wide range of dishes from both cuisines, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
• Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards
• Creativity & Innovation: Ability to create new and exciting dishes, while maintaining authentic flavors.
• Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, especially in food presentation and consistency.
• Communication Skills: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively with the kitchen team, and follow instructions.
• Flexibility & Adaptability: Willingness to adjust to changing menu requirements and customer preferences.
• Educational Qualifications: Formal culinary training or equivalent experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Standing for long periods, as well as lifting and carrying heavy kitchen equipment, is expected.
