Imaging Product Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE:

Deliver high quality imaging data and imaging-based features from advanced imaging techniques for incorporation in automated product quality and sorting equipment centered on Seed Production.

Deliver, manage and maintain imaging hardware, imaging modality and feature sets to deliver accuracy and throughput goals in collaboration with SPISE, QT and other key collaborators to ensure compatibility with deployed equipment, meet lab testing demands, and maintain business continuity.

Works closely with global, regional engineering networks, and local sites to scale the lab advanced imaging technologies as they are being developed and partner with stakeholders to successfully deliver the lab technology product roadmap for integration into current lab processes.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Member of the regional Quality Testing team(s); matrix member of the SPISE Lab Product team; and member of the global imaging engineer product network.
• Responsible for delivering and managing the imaging hardware, imaging modalities and feature sets to deliver on accuracy and throughput goals, ensure compatibility with deployed equipment to meet lab testing demands and maintain business continuity for business critical imaging equipment.
• Responsible for oversight of the deployed imaging equipment maintenance program and equipment vendor system contracts. Schedules and ensures completion of preventative maintenance, equipment and peripherals lists, completion of work orders and is a point of contact for emergency repairs to business critical imaging equipment outside of business hours. Responsible for viewing and reporting trends in equipment breakdowns and identifying ways to reduce maintenance costs.
• Responsible for deploying imaging software on equipment/lab automations and troubleshooting system errors; elevating regional/global system trends through tiered support structure as appropriate. Responsible for ensuring successful equipment integration with IT.
• Evaluates improvements to existing methods for higher throughput, higher quality images, and improved integration with automated workflows.
• Executes scaled/test on site studies for new advanced applications and compare different techniques for accuracy and throughput considerations specific to the region/site/automation.
• Works closely with global, regional engineering networks, and local sites to scale the lab advanced imaging technologies as they are being developed and partner with stakeholders to successfully deliver the lab technology product roadmap for integration into current lab processes. Responsible for developing and maintaining the regional LRP capital planning to match the roadmap, i.e. including working with Procurement, and 3rd party vendors to identify, purchase, and install equipment following local safety regulations.
• Deliver high quality imaging data using validated methods of image characterization and calibration transfer among machines. Use defined methods of data preprocessing and calibration as inputs to feature extraction functions.
• Collaborate with modeling teams to assess accuracy and throughput based on number of imaging techniques and size of feature sets.
• Strategize with SPISE Imaging & Detection, Software Engineering, and SIS Data Science teams including IT analytics to determine system architecture approaches for integration of automation, image capture, image analysis, and data modeling components.
• Generate project reports, regular updates to leadership and stakeholders, technical documentation, code archival, and IP-related material.
• Create and promote a safe working environment which includes ensuring all equipment meets or exceeds local, regional EHS requirements.

WHO YOU ARE:

• B.S. in engineering, science and related fields with +5 years experience working with technical/laboratory equipment in context of developing and deploying automated solutions in a lab-based environment.
• Demonstrated expertise with industrial cameras, computer interfaces, and image data transfer.
• Demonstrated proficiency to utilize developed image processing methods including data preprocessing, image calibration, and descriptive feature extraction.
• Demonstrated proficiency with procedural image processing approaches using C, Python, Matlab, etc. languages.
• Demonstrated proficiency with integration of imaging technologies and image processing methods in automated systems.
• Familiarity with methods of data modeling from imaging-based features and feature sets is desired.
• Familiarity with high-content imaging, e.g., hyperspectral, 3D images, etc., is desired.
• Willingness to travel regionally up to 20% of the time.
