Job Description


Overview:The IBDP/MYP English HOD plays a crucial role in leading the English department in an International Baccalaureate (IB) school. This position is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum for English. The HOD provides leadership to the English teaching team, ensures quality teaching and learning, and contributes to the overall academic excellence of the school.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the English department in curriculum development and implementation for IBDP and MYP.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to English teachers, supporting their professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with IB standards and practices in teaching English language and literature.
  • Collaborate with other department heads to integrate the English curriculum with the broader school curriculum.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and provide support to students as needed.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to maintain high academic standards.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the English department, students, and parents.
  • Participate in professional development and stay updated with IB educational practices.
  • Contribute to the wider school community through extracurricular activities, events, and committees.
  • Supervise and manage departmental resources and budget effectively.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master\'s degree in English Literature, Education, or related field.
  • IB Certification in Teaching and Learning (IBCTL) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience teaching English in an IB school.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, particularly in IBDP and MYP.
  • Proven leadership and management skills in an educational setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of IB educational frameworks and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor and support educators in developing effective teaching strategies.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Experience in conducting student assessments and data analysis.
  • Understanding of diverse learning needs and differentiation strategies.
